O2 Xphone + New SD Card = Big Headache!

I recently bought a kingston 512MB SD card but I'm having trouble trying to use it. When I try to copy a file from the computer onto the Xphone, specifically onto the SD card, I get the error message "Cannot copy XYZ file: The file may be in read-only memory, on a write protected disk, or currently in use by another application." I thought the problem might lie with the sd card so I tried to format it using SP Task Manager. But SP is unable to format the card and I get another error message "Error while formatting the card !"

Which leaves me with a perfectly new and useless SD card. Someone please help me so i can change that sentence to new and useful SD card.

Thanks!!!

1* On the side of your card, there is a switch to write-protect it .Check it !

2*I had before a Dell Axim , a lot of probs with sd card compatibility .

Since that time , I only use SIMPLETECH memory cards , they work with everything .

Is your card made in china ?

There were lots of problems with cards from China, none with the ones from Japan .

If you want to be 100% sure , go for SIMPLETECH .

To make things clear , I don't work for Simpletech and don't have any advantages for promoting them !!!!

Normally what you are discribing is due to the memory switch, if the phone can access the card normally. Otherwise the problem you may have is that your card could be dual layer type, this problem was discovered in the E200 that for some strange reson htc

did not enable dual layer support. When buying a card find out if it is

single layer.

The most used card by members here are Sandisk, as they are single layer cards and should work without a problem.

Thanks for the advice guys. spv1123 the card is made in japan but sadly it's still problematic.

I opened my eyes a little wider and realised loads of people with the Xphone and kingston cards are having the same problem as me (dual layer be damned!). Files can't be transferred to the phone with activesync, videos and pictures can't be saved onto the card etc.

But I was wondering if I used a media card reader to transfer files (eg. mp3s) to the card and then place the card in my Xphone. Would the Xphone be able to play the mp3s from the card normally? Or am I looking at a lost cause over here... This card burnt a small hole in my pocket and I'm hoping there's some way to salvage the situation.

You can try that method but to be honest you really need another

card for reliability
