Guest Goodfella1978 Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Hiya people Sorry for sounding thick here  but I want to unlock my C500 because there's a few things that I want to install on my phone (apps, homescreens etc) but it won't let me unless it's unlocked. I also want to copy some system files to my PC and understand that unlocking the phone will let me do so. Anyway, How do I unlock it? Sorry if this is stated somewhere else on this site, but I can't find it if it is. Am I right in thinking that there is a link to a page on the Orange website where I can put my number in and get some kind of text sent back to let me unock my C500? Is it safe? Is it free? Any answers at all would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot. ========================================== "I'm gonna go get the paper, get the papers"
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Relax, it's quick, free and painless You do need GPRS if you want to do it from your phone (it failed for me when trying over CSD) http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/SPV.aspx?U=T Bear in mind that UNLOCKING is safe, but you need to consider what software you are installing! I don't recall having any real problems with ANY software, but by running software that is defective or badly designed it could have... unintended results! Get your phone unlocked, but use this forum to check out software before installing to avoid any painful experiences later!
Guest Goodfella1978 Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Woah! Thanks for the quick reply Chucky! I'm on my way there now... Thanks for all your pointers too. What would I do without this website and all you helpul sods?! (no offense - I've discovered so much through this site and many of its members) Cheers!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 I also want to copy some system files to my PC and understand that unlocking the phone will let me do so. Not all system files can be copied, what files were you refering to?
Guest EggZenBeanz Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Relax, it's quick, free and painless You do need GPRS if you want to do it from your phone (it failed for me when trying over CSD) I've just bought the c500 as PAYG. I don't know if i have gprs. Can i still unlock it so i can use it with my O2 GPRS account.
Guest Confucious Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Use Passthrough and do it via your PC. Sorry, just re-read your post. This thread is about application unlocking which is complertely different from SIM unlocking which you have to pay for.

But i will need to have gprs to application unlock?
Guest Goodfella1978 Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Not all system files can be copied, what files were you refering to? Awarner, I was hoping to copy the default Orange homescreen. I did find it somewhere on this forum once but lost the CD that I copied it to, and now I can't find it on here again! I just want to mess around with it and try and create a new custom homescreen, using the nifty little vertical icon bar thingemy-bob. Cheers. The weekend is 11 minutes away!!!!
Guest mwille Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Awarner, I was hoping to copy the default Orange homescreen. THAT file you can copy  Look for WindowsOrangeHomescreen.home.xml on the phone. I could attach it for you, but I'm not sure whether they maybe took it of MoDaCo for some copyright reason :?: Mods ?
Guest Goodfella1978 Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Thanks anyway mwille, but I've found it now (cheers for the location) and I'm having fun xml-ing away! Thanks!

I just got a c500 on contract and don't want to screw it up.... What benefits does unlocking have? Just allow the use of different networks sims or does this relate to the software lock? Regards moo Edited March 10, 2005 by moo
Guest squall Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 its safe and free - provided by orange uk
Guest moo Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 thanks I just did it...... What exactly have I unlocked? Regards Moo
Guest squall Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 lol this unlock allows you to run applications which would otherwise not be allowed to run on the phone. Many homescreens etc need the phone to be unlocked
Guest moo Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 I am on the register page and it say;s Registered YES Lock: running What does this mean? Cheers
Guest Disco Stu Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Your IMEI number is registered at Orange. Your phone is application locked.

Guest neutrino Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Hi! I have an Orange SIM un-locked phone (C500). Can I install a software update from Orange without any problem? I mean, could it be locked again after the installation? Thanks for your assistance. Neutrino
Guest moo Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 I would ignore that. Can you install apps etc ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks You were right the lock was disabled even tho that dumb app told me no! I guess testing is the key.... Moo
Guest Kinch Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 Sorry if I am being a bit slow (early you see) Am i right in thinking there are 2 types of UNLOCKING. One to unlock the SIM and one to unlock the software? Or are they the same thing? Coz i am expecting my C500 and want to use a VODAFONE SIM card on it and thought that the http://www.imei-check.co.uk/c500unlock.php would do? Is that right. cheers
Guest squall Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 yes your correct, imei-check allows you to sim unlock and use sim cards from any network (apart from 3) appliction unlocking is done directly through orange on there developers site
