Guest Chris Bevan Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I have an SPV E200 and have succesfully bonded (from the phone to PC). When I then sync though it comes up with message "Unable to connect. Verify your dial up or proxy settings are correct and try again". How do I do this?! I have tried different COM port settings but to no avail. I have also tried various other hints & tips on the site. Spent the last week trying to get this thing working. Please help before I smash the thing to bits!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I cam only refer you to these 2 threads. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1174...c48b9199080d9bf http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=116285&start=0
Guest Chris Bevan Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Thanks.....but been there tried these to no avail. On phone it shows COM port Inbound as 6 and Outbound as 7. What should the PC show?
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Hi, I hope this info helps. Make sure you don't have a registry-protection prog enabled on your pc (like adaware ad-watch, for example) when using BT to active sync with your phone, a registry change will be made, and since progs like this block them, the change won't take effect, therefore BT active sync won't work. Also, you have to go to your phone, to configurations, bt active sync setup> and start a bonding from there. EVEN IF YOUR PHONE IS ALREADY BONDED (PAIRED) WITH YOUR PC. follow the pairing/bonding steps. for a full set of the instructions that finally worked for me, go here http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/1679.html or here http://www.ppcw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1188
Guest Confucious Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Assuming you are using Win XP with SP2 and the e200 is like the C500 you do not need the incoming port on the e200 and it's easier if you uncheck it. if you don't uncheck it then you will have 2 BT modems installed on your PC (Control Pannel -> Phones and modems) if you uncheck it you should just have the one. In Control Pannel -> Phones and modems see what port the modem isand set Activesync to that port (it will probably be different from the Com7 on the phone). If you have not unchecked the Incoming com port on the phone you have to Guess which one of the 2 modems it is and if you select the wrong one Activesync tries to connect from the PC and will eventually fail. The connection to ActiveSync must be mmade from the phone and will not work until the PC has been rebooted with BT turned off on the phone and not turned on again until after the PC has finnished booting then the connection can be made. Like I say this works for me on WinXP SP2 using the built in BT and with a C500 so it could be different for you... Good Luck
Guest Chris Bevan Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! One small step for man one giant leap....... Worked through both of last 2 responses - uninstalled Adaware while I did the steps and have since reinstalled and still works (so not sure whether that step is required but who cares!). Fantastic!! Thanks to all who helped. Do you always have to click Option 4 Connect via Bluetooth on the phone or should it "know" now that it syncs automatically via Bluetooth? (Mind you I think I'll quit whilst I'm ahead now it works!!)
Guest Confucious Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 You have to click the option each time to activate the connection. but I've found that for some reason it somnetimes swaps to Option 3 (with setup switching to Option 4) without apparent reason - so don't just take option 4!
Guest rodrigoperu Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 glad to have helped! and yes, the adaware thing was necessary, though uninstalling it was a bit extreme. Adaware has a component called ad-watch, which by default locks the registry startup section. if an installation requires changes to the registry, it won't come through, or it will be an incomplete installation due to adwatch locking the registry, therefore you have to shut it off during such installation. Once the change has been made and you reinstall or restart adaware and adwatch, it again will lock down your registry, BUT the change has already been made. I'm glad you finally got it going.

I'd really like to somehow have a shortcut to the "activesync via bluetooth" option. Ideally, a hotkey. Is this possible? My dream is to have it automatically try to activesync via bluetooth every 5 minutes, so as soon as I'm within range, it'll do it. Apparently though, that's just not possible. (!?)
