Guest ghm101 Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Heres a link I picked up off a news feed Skins for the HTC Typhoon An alternative to a leather case https://www.skinit.com/item--Audiovox-SMT56...--phau1000.html "vinyl that uses a non-permanent adhesive that will allow you to simply peel off the Skin when its time for a change" Anybody tried this sort of thing?
Guest filao Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 This is the kind of protection I wanted for my C500, I used to have it on my last phone and it was really good. Could do with some more detailed pictures before buying though, and knowing more about the "non-permanent adhesive"
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 This has been around in the US for a while now, I have seen MPX200 using them and they appear ok in the photos I have seen. Still not proper protection though as the screen and keys are not protected.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Would be interesting to see what is included, and what the quality is white... an iPod white C500 would be cool ;-) P
Guest Vector Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 "]an iPod white C500 would be cool ;-) P YES! :D But the SDA Music doesn't look all that great, perhaps it's just the pink bits
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Yeah, in the flesh it looks better than the pics (one was floating round at the event), but it does look a bit weird. The back of the SDA Music is soooooo iPod ripoff ;-) P
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 has anyone bought one of these, if so what do you make of the quality, does it 'spoil' the look of the phone ir is it as high quality as it says. it does look like a nice idea if they are good quality.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I just ordered two, I'll post pics and let you know how they work out.
Guest ghm101 Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Hey encece, Thanks for taking the plunge. Seems like it might be a bit of a mission to stick the cover on. It would be good to know -How hard it is to stick on for a good result -Your opinion of the level of protection it offers -if you can still remove your battery after without taking the whole skin off. -If you think it looks cool. And as a card carrying member of the ipodophobe association I hope you didn't order a white one  I think black is the new black and I like to look of the black carbon fibre print. It's not that I don't acknowledge the ipod as an excellent bit of design, its just that I am sick to death of hearing about the thing. I basically prefer my gadgets to converge rather than specialise. look forward to your feed back.
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 could you post some nice big close up pics of your phone? That would be fantastic
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I ordered a black one with water drops and a white one as well. The white one is just to see how it looks. I'm not one for bright colored phones or funky animal skin designs. I just wanted some scratch protection without having to bulk the phone up with a case. And it seemed odd to put a plain black one over a black phone. It would be cool if they has sports team versions as well that you could change seasonally..... or custom prints for the Modaco Version!
Guest ddocta Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Does this come with some type of protection for the screen, or is that left open? Also, are there some picks of it on a phone.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 There is a pic of it on the phone at the top of the mobile phone screen https://www.skinit.com/cat--Mobile-Phone-Sk...ins--phone.html But that is probably photoshopped.
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 There is a pic of it on the phone at the top of the mobile phone screen https://www.skinit.com/cat--Mobile-Phone-Sk...ins--phone.html But that is probably photoshopped. that looks nice but i was more looking for a real world example, they are gonna have perfect pics on their website.
Guest ddocta Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 There is a pic of it on the phone at the top of the mobile phone screen https://www.skinit.com/cat--Mobile-Phone-Sk...ins--phone.html But that is probably photoshopped. Yeah, definetly looks photoshoped. Just one real pic, thats all I want.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Give me some time to get mine in....I'll take some pics
Guest spark-x Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 LOOKING FORWARD to it  thanks
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Still waiting for it's arrival....probably before the end of this week.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 I received the skins today. I installed the white one first, out of curiosity and because I figured I really like the black-bubble one so the white one would make a good test in case I meeed up the application. Installing was fairly easy. If you are off a tiny bit it really shows as the diecut holes are pretty intricate and exact. The skind does not cover the sides, as I kind of expected, but I thought there would be a bit more wrap around the sides as was some PPC skins I've purchased in the past. I had a few small bubbles. But a very tiny poke with a pin and they're gone. I think I'll use the hair dryer, as recommended by the skin-it site to try to smoth down some edges a bit more....but here are the pics so far. I kind of like it for basic protection. I'm not sure if I like the white....but it was worth a shot anyway! :lol:DSCN1168.jpgDSCN1165.jpgDSCN1162.jpgDSCN1162.jpgDSCN1157.jpg
Guest TEXMudder Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 Pics make it look like a sticker.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 It is a sticker. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 Here are a few more pics with the other skin on. I will say that although removing the white skin was easy, it left glue all over my phone....but it was easily and safely removed with alchohol. Note in the third pic below that even though it is a dark skin, it is still printed on white film. This film, though only 1000ths of an inch think, is still visible from the side making it look even more like the sticker that it is. You can actually feel the edges of the film when holding the phone making it very uncomfortable to hold. In the end, unless you're trying to cover up an already existing blemish on the phone...I would not recommend this solution as ANY kind of protection for ANY phone. Encece Rating:  out of      BOO! EDIT: The dust on the side of the phone was from the paper towel I used to remove the previous glue....it's was wiped off easily.1.JPG2.JPG3.JPG
Guest ghm101 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Thanks for all that Encece, your review of this skin cover is much appreciated. I have heard what you say and will keep this in mind for any eventual "blemishes". In the meantime my phone will continue "Comando" again a great review.
Guest sponge Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Thanks for being a guinea pig  I had high hopes for this product, but unfortunately they have been dashed by your kind review and I won't now be buying one. I mean, what's the point? It doesn't even extend around the corners and it's the corners that will get bashed more readily. :?
