Guest kokee Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 After carefully looking at my screen for dust (which I can find just 1 particle) I noticed a dead pixel (white) on the lower left of the screen. I've had my phone since it came out and only just noticed it now mainly because its where the soft key selection is - only noticed it when screen was all black playing a movie fullscreen. I was just wondering if a dead pixel warrants a replacement even though I've had it some time. If so would i have to go though Orange or HTC? Thanks KoKee
Guest squall Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 you can try through orange but i almost remember that there is a % of dead pixels that is supposed to be acceptable
Guest NIGHTMARE Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Please let us know of the outcome as i have one on the right of my screen but it does not bother me thata much, might give orange a call next time i do a hard reset if you have any luck getting a replacment. 8)
Guest zeta101 Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 i dont know if squall is talking specifically about the c500, but in general for tft monitors the number of pixles has to go over a certain number before they will replace it, normally about 3-4ish for say a 17in monitor. However i have never come across this before with phones, i think its because the screens are much smaller the chance of dead pixles is much lower, so the manufacturer cant really get away with imloying the number of dead pixles thing (the reason they do it with monitors is because if they had to throw away defective tfts with dead pixles then they would lose a lot of money). This is kinda hand-wavy though, best if somone can confirm it or not.
Guest Discub Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I had the same problem when i got my brand new c500  , and I immediatly gave it back for reparation  , after two weeks had it back with a new screen  !!!! Good service! and now, I'm really enjoying it!
Guest kiddybaggie Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Just upgraded from my E200 and just found a dead pixel, had the phone less than 24 hours......love the phone and can live with the dead pixel, but I shouldn't have to should I?, Does this warrant a replacement handset? If so can I just go to an orange shop and replace it there and then? I upgraded through orange over the phone so do I have to replace it that way rather than in the shop?
Guest maximumbass Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 well, im not sure about that - but i do know that they are in a position to replace them 'there and then'. i know this because after i bought my c500 the d-pad wasnt responding to 'down' lol. so they replaced it. i know that a broken D-pad is more serious than a missing pixel but at least its worth a try id say. Guest kiddybaggie Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Just phoned orange ref: the dead pixel and they agreed to replace first thing tomorrow morning. Fair play to 'em! Funny thing was, they asked if I had a black or silver C500, I have a black one and said so but if I'd said silver I'm sure they would have replaced it with one of those. Suprised they didn't know from the IMEI number. After hearing the stories of silver SPV's being scratched easily I'm happy to stick with the black. She also said it would be a brand new replacement. Which I'd expect after 7 days.
Guest the_bollix Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Mine had a few dead pixels I only discovered after I'd turned the phone on after the initial charge. Got a replacement (from an orange shop) no problems. THe stupid thing was I got home and found more dead pixels. I give up!! There hard to see and only really apparent when the screen is fully black. I can live with it and am not convinced a replacement (handset #3) would be any better.
Guest slippyr4 Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I had a dead pixel from day one, bang in the middle of the screen, bright blue, mostly very noticable :) Orange wouldn't replace it. :(
Guest Confucious Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Don't you get a 14 day money back Guarantee? I would have demanded my money back and then seen how quickly they replaced it with one that wasn't faulty....
Guest Lojt Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I had a dead pixel on my first c500 too, i turned it in the day after and got a replacement phone though, so im happy :)
