Hi,

I have a few questions about my SPV-C500. I am new to this

smartphone thing. I hope someone can help me out...

I am annoyed by the popping up of phone numbers when I start a new SMS message and I am in the "To"-window, where I have to enter the phone number. It doesn't matter if it says "123" or "T9"; previously used phone numbers, even wrong entries show up anyway. Where can I delete this history? I tried deleting all mail, sms, phone-call history, but the numbers still come up. Is there a way to delete these and even a way to turn off this kind of unwanted "auto complete"? Maybe by tweaking the registry?

Another question: If I get a sms; will it be stored on the Sim or on the Phone or both? If I delete sms messages and thereafter the Deleted Items folder, are all messages deleted? Or are they still left on the Sim-card?

Where are SMS messages stored; in which folder in the tree?

If I look at the folder tree, I notice that "windows", "sounds", "my documents" and a few other folders exist more than once. It seems not very logical to me. Can someone explain to me in brief what certain folders are for and why they are double?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mike

Welcome to the forum Mike and the wonderful world of Smartphones

To be honest I've never experienced your first problem as I always / only send texts to people in my Contacts list. Like the T9 word-prediction feature I don't know of any way to turn this off.

Another way of deleting texts & emails is to use Space Maker in the Accessories folder. After that, you can clear out anything in Storage Windows Messaging and Storage MAPI.

As to duplicate folders, I wouldn't worry about them. You can't delete anything in the Windows folder as it will be rewritten on reboot. My Documents & Sounds will appear in Storage (the phone itself) and on the storage card. You don't need them on the card but may well want them there for the sake of organisation.

Thanks for your reply,

So I understand that the storage folder is the 64 MB that is part of the phone. Storage Card (logically) the 32 MB Mini SD that came with the phone. And Windows is like frozen on the phone itself and can't be deleted/changed. The reason why I asked about the other windows, my docs etc. folders is because I have no clue sometimes where to put stuff like programs, ringtones etc.

I hope someone has an answer to my first question: How to delete the autocomplete in the sms "to" window. Maybe someone can tell me the email address of the manufacturer (HTC?) so I can ask them for support. Of course I'll share the outcome with you.

When installing programs etc you should get the choice of saving to phone or storage card. The latter is best to save phone memory.

Ringtones should go in Storage Application Data Sounds and skins in Storage Application Data Home unless you want to keep a large selection, in which case there is a storage card solution.

I'll look into the other problem and see if I can find anything.

As I understand it The total phone memory is 64Mb but that includes ROM so the actual storage available is somehat less (about 28Mb) The Storage card is the MiniSD card (usually only 16Mb is supplied - at least by Orange here in the UK) The Windows directory on the phone is part of the 64Mb and can be changed but anything stored in there will be lost the next time the phone is rebooted. So to store things I find it's best to use My Documents ion the Storage card if I have room (I bought a 256Mb card but half of that is now taken up with CoPilot). HTH

Why are you so worried about it trying to autocomplete the numbers? As far as I know there is no way of deleting this list (If you dio find a way or if anyone else can help, please let us know) but it has never bothered me as all you have to do is carry on typing and it disappears.
