Question about SMT5600

Hey guys,

from what i read, most of the people who get the SMT5600 use it for cingular or TMo. What i dont get is how can you get the phone from ATT wireless with a plan and than use it for cingular. It seems to me that you have 2 plans than, one from ATT and one from Cingular or TMo.

I dont know if this makes sense.

Because now Cingular and AT&T Wireless are one company (merger). AT&T is the one selling the telephone at the moment, not sure how this will change in the near future.

You can order the phone from Amazon with or without a plan.

I bought mine from ATTWS, but cancelled the service and switched to T-Mobile. I just didn't return the phone.. I am sure they will charge me more for the phone later on... The phone cost $320.00 retail. I paid $200 with contract with ATTWS.

In the UK I believe the phone is part of the contract so if you don't return the phone (incl. all packaging and accessories) you have not cancelled your contract and they will continue to charge you - hope it's diffrent in the USA!

In the US, the phone is separate from the plan. The only reason they offer the phone at a reduced price with the plan is because they want to make money back from the cost of the phone by itself, but if you cancel your plan, you can still keep the phone....just have to pay the early termination fee. Hell, I have the SMT 5600 that I use regularly and have the MPx200 charged up and just wasting away at home....eventually i'll sell it...
