Guest aca03dah Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 I have just got a C500, unlocked; I also have a '3' sim card... Whilst i don't want to use the video function, I would like to be able to just use talk and text. However, when turning on my phone it says: Invalid or missing Sim Card. Can someone please advise? NOTE. I think that it works in my unlocked Mpx200 - but i wanted to upgrade hence the C500... Cheers David Herman Microsoft MVP
Guest the_ugly_north Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 You're an MVP and don't know this??  Have you had a new sim-card from 3 recently? The 3 network authenticates via IMEI (as all networks do). When 'roaming' on O2 this method is still used. 3 actually know whether the phone you are using is 2G or 3G (via IMEI). Therefore they can block a 2G phone from using their network. There is only one way around: change the IMEI to a 3 one and spend 2 years in jail because it is illegal (in the UK at least).
Guest squall Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 You may find if you tried it that it would work, but 3 would soon cancel the sim and send a special one that only works on the 3 network
Guest aca03dah Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Yea... its a new sim, only had it 2 days now... Perhaps i should look at canceling the contract and getting a new one then  Shame, really like the price/plan i'm on with '3' but i love the smartphone too.... Tuff one! Anyone know any good deals or any suggestions as to what i should do? btw, getting 500mins anytime any network + 100 texts for £4.99/month
Guest the_ugly_north Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Do what I do. Carry 2 phones (3G and C500). Only solution....
Guest Confucious Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 3 do some very good price plans and if it wasn't for the Walled garden the A1000 is not a bad phone. I use my C500 most of the time but if I run out of minutes I put mu old 3 SIM in and it still works (at the moment) but the C500 is such a nice phone...
