Guest ospre Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Having had a SPV E200 for the best part of a year it's now more or less worn out, I've got repeating keys, a knackerd joystick, poor Bluetooth and voice quality of people on the phone is not good. So I've decided to upgrade, choice will be either Nokia 6820, SPV C500 or the Sony P900. I would naturally go for the C500 but past experience of the E200 shows that there were lots of design faults and build quality isn't that great either. Now that the C500 has been out a few months how is it fairing up build wise, and is the 6820 or the P900 plagued with design and teething problems as well or is it just the C500? Any advice or pointers would be appreciated. Nick.
Guest chucky.egg Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 C500 build quality (on mine at least) is fine. I know 2 other people (out of 6 people I know with C500s) that have had to have replacement handsets - because of lockups and odd stuff. Mine's been fine. I can't vouch for the 6820 cos I've never used one, but I used to love my P900. The downside with the P900 (as opposed to the P910i) is that you can only use 128Mb MemorySticks (P910i can handle 1Gb). MS are more expensive than SD, and 128Mb got a bit boring after a while - especially if you listen to music. On balance I'd say go for the C500. It's heaps better than the E200 I had, and a million miles away from the E100.
Guest McHale Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 I have the 6800 and the 6820 and have worked with Nokia on the FW's of each so I can speak to greater length than anyone cares about... I really like the 6820. The camera quality is below decent but you can tell what the picture is. The keyboard is great. I get better reception on the 6820 than I do with most of my other phones. The menus are snappy. The phone is tiny (I think slightly smaller than the c500). I have no complaints about it. Of course, it's no Smartphone so you can't view .xls or .doc files on it. The software choices are limited to what's available by java files. There's other things that the Smartphone does that series 40 phones will never do. -Mc
Guest Confucious Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 The C500 is well built and an excellent phone. There are bugs (see bug list) nbut then there are with any phone. I don't know about the Nokia (not my cup of tea) but the SE is also a good phone but I wanted something smaller (and cheaper) and went for the c500 and i must say I'm very pleased I did.
Guest Tunney Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Posting a question like that on such a partisan board is asking for trouble.
