Pocket PC Phones & Low Battery

My Ipaq Pocket PC looses all its data if I let the battery run completely out. My C500 does not do this. It merely turns off.

Are Pocket PC phones the same? If I accidentally let the battery run down, does my device return to factory settings or will it act like my C500?

PPC's are designed to be always on (although they can goto sleep)

a ppcpe device looses all the information stored on it if the battery does go flat. There is a backup, but it only lasts a very short time

Hmm, not so clever is you let you batter run out, wake up in the morning and your PPC phone has reset itself.

you shouldnt let your ppc or your smartphone run flat as it can corrupt the information on the device. Smartphone batterys can be damaged if they run flat

I was amaised when i first found out that iPaqs lose all the data when the battery goes flat. I'm fairly certain my Philips Nino didn't, I know my Casseopeia didn't nor my Toshiba e740. They all had backup batteries. Now I don't use a PPC because i have a c500 which I've never runb completely flat because, out of habbit, I tend to plug it in each night and now I've bought a car charger fropm MoDaCo i should never find out what happens

I place all my important stuff on the sd card  , all ppc have a second battery but that one only lasts a coupe of hours and you can't use the ppc any more until main batt is charged. (so that it won't drain the sec. batt. flat) ram memory needs power to memorize, rom doesn't. (Read Only Memory)

Taken from the O2 XDAIIs manual:

"It is vital to keep your battery charged. Because your Pocket PC Phone does not have a hard drive, all data and any new programs you install are stored in the RAM. If the battery completely drains, any data or new programs you installed will be erased. Only the default programs that came with the device at the time of purchase will remain. To prevent this kind of data loss, a portion of the main battery will keep your data safe for 72 hours if your device runs out of power. An additional battery, the internal backup battery, is designed to keep your data safe when you remove the main battery. It will keep the data safe for 20 minutes."
