Guest chainy Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Hi people, After buying my c500 last weekend i have unlocked it and tried to carry out the software update to fix the known bugs but all i get is an error stating communication problems. Any one have any ideas? I have the latest version of active sinc installed and my usb cable is connected properly and i have also carried out all the steps as instructed. Cheers
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Welcome to the site  Check your firewall settings as this can cause a lot of problems.
Guest chainy Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Welcome to the site :D Check your firewall settings as this can cause a lot of problems. Thanks for the welcome  I tried disabling my firewall and it still didnt work. Activesinc disconnects when the update tries to install. Is this right? I just keep getting error code 264 no matter what i try :?
Guest Confucious Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 There doesn't seem to be a resolution to this problem apart from running the update from another PC ( see http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=116385 ) HTH

Not the news i really wanted to hear but atleast it saves me from wasting my time keep trying. I'll hook it up to a PC at work on monday and cross my fingers!
Guest Confucious Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 I think awarner is right ( he usually is) and it is a firewall problem - Are you using WinXP SP2? Are you using the built in firewall? Have you any other firewall installed? Do you get any more detail on the error (eg 0x800706ba)

Do you get any more detail on the error (eg 0x800706ba) I'm using xp without the sp add ons (although updated most issues individually). Not using the built in firewall but running norton internet security. Tried disabling it and installing the update with no sucess. No other error details.
Guest Confucious Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 Almost certainly NIS stopping the communication but if you are certain it is disabled then, short of uninstalling it all I can suggest is that you email Symantec and see if they can help.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Another thing to try is to connect the phone ready for the update then reboot the PC. Once rebooted immmidiately disable your firewall and run the update.

Once rebooted immmidiately disable your firewall and run the update. I have updated the software at my mates house today. He is also running NI but the install started instantly and all is now well. Would of been nice to have rectified the problem on my own PC for future updates though. Thanks for all the help guys!
Guest Confucious Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 Glad you got it done. Sjhame we haven't solved the mystery tho'
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 It's a known problem and has been around since the first SPV
Guest csd1uk Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 hey i know the problem is sorted but for future readers, i have the same problem, i had disbled all of my firewall programs and still no luck, what i found that is even though they said disabled there was a process running related to the firewall. i tried ending the process in cntrl + alt + del but it wouldnt end, on restart i couldnt do it either. In the end i had to uninstall the firewall software and check the process was not running and then all was fine. Long winded i know but worked for me.
Guest Mui3 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 how did u uninstalled the firewall software because i have the same problem?
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 Look for the software in Add/Remove Programs on your PC's Control Panel. Did you try tp temporarily disable the firewall first though ? Which firewall software are you using ?
