Guest motorolampx200 Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 Hi, I haven't flashed my mpx 200 yet but I was wondering which settings I can adjust to save on battery power, because I have to recharge the phone every day! I call a lot  According to the specs I should be able to call for 1 a 2 hours and that is correct but please post your solutions, and that doesn't include the hard reset trick. Tnx en hopefully people can benefit from this thread
Guest beersoft Posted November 19, 2004 Report Posted November 19, 2004 errm, ok tips that dont envolve hard resets: disable the check for email every x minuites dont leave it connected to the internet over gprs (ie msn etc) charge the phone using the mains charger for at least 16 hours every month charge the phone using the mains charger as much as posible dont have apps running in the background - use task manager to kill unneeded apps set the backlight timeout to 30 seconds or less those should work. if your getting 24 hours standby with 1 - 2 hours of calls thats ok, having better signal strenght might increase the standby time later Owen
Guest Rivernet1 Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Actually - the MPx200 has the worst battery life in the Moto fleet. 8 hrs per day tops if you use more than 2 hours on calls, or use GPRS/Web a lot as well. Best things to tell ya: 1.) Get yourself an extra charging cable. (USB, AC, DC, etc...) 2.) If you're not going to use GPRS for a while - doubleclick the hangup button. (You know it's offline, when the "G" is gone.) When you start your browser again, GPRS will come back up automagiclly.
Guest motorolampx200 Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 What is exactly the difference in charging the battery with the motorola charger and the usb cable charge. I read that it is better to use the motorola charger. But why?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 There is no difference in charging apart from the time it takes. The battery should last you at least three days on standby but with normal use ie calls and games you should still get between one and two days. this will of course reduce if you start playing games for a few hours etc.

Guest dodding nonkey Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Rivernet1 wrote You must be the only one on the planet that gets more than 8 hours per charge. AH, Make that two  . Unless I'm playing games a lot or listening to a lot of music I normally get 2 days use (few calls, some sms etc each day). Worse I've had was 24 hrs and I had to give the battery a right caning to drop it that low.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 You must be the only one on the planet that gets more than 8 hours per charge. Not at all that's about standard for most users here with proper care of their batteries etc. Remember never try to fully discharge the batter as you can damage it, and try to keep it topped upwhen possible. You also have the fully charge battery before hard reset trick as well.
Guest mike-oh Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 Does anyone know why/how that fully charge then hard reset trick actually works?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 The OS looks at the state of the battery and after the reset it calibrates itself to the state of the battery at that time.
Guest Rivernet1 Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 The OS looks at the state of the battery and after the reset it calibrates itself to the state of the battery at that time. I've been developing some applications for the SmartPhone 2002 platform and have yet to read this gold nugget of information anywhere. Can you show me where this is mentioned, please?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 The technique for improving the battery life has been mentioned in countless posts in this section alone. The person who discovered this and how it works was @nonymus. This is the same guy that created the hacked 2003 rom for the MPX200.
Guest shyne Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 the hard resets with 100% charged hasnt worked for me. do u think doing the hardreset with the phone charged to 100% and left plugged in during the reset would cause damage or be helpful?

That's all fine and good - but I asked for a reference for a white paper, or document from Motorola. I'm sure his hack is a good piece of work, but I'm a stickler for information from the OEM, if you know what I mean. (* This is of course not a slam on you of course... *)

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 I do not know of a white paper on this but then who is to say that the information was not ment to be released, but as the rom has been hacked etc more information gets out. If you want more details I can only suggest you try and contact @nonymus but that may be difficult as only a few people actually know him.
Guest Rivernet1 Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Thank you both for the insight. At least I can't count on both of you to not read into something, as others might have taken my questioning as a form of attack or something childish. My hats off to both of you. Oh - Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 I will always help and advice to the best of my experience and knowledge and I am always ready to learn. But more importantly have fun as well  We do not have Thanks Giving in the UK but have a happy holiday :D
Guest greenwood Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 you won't be able to do a http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset with the charger still pluged in. it won't take you to the http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset screen, as the phone will only booth-up in normal mode. Actually it is possible but with another key combination.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Green wood I presume you are refering to Engineering mode?
Guest ronny Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Actually it is possible but with another key combination. whats this key combination?
Guest Rivernet1 Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I have noticed the battery life getting better since the Cingular/ATT merging. Now my phone doesn't have to hunt for a GSM signal since it's been all 5 bars for the last week.
