There are loads to choose from (not just here at MoDaCo either)

Find the ones you want and download them

If they are in a CAB or HME file you copy them to your phone and open them there

If they are in a ZIP file extract the files and copy them to StorageApplication DataHome

Then, to choose the Homescreen for your current mood, go Settings 4-Homescreen and pick one

Right a quick guide > Here goes , these are file types and how to install them.

1.Hme = place in the Storage/Windows/Start Menu/Accessories then select within the start menu on your phone and it will install it from there.

2. .xml & .jpg just place in Storage/Application Data/Home folder then select Start/Settings/Homescreen within that option you'll find the name of the xml in the Layout option & Leave Color & Background Image as Default and it should work when you return to the homescreen :D

3. .CAB (look like a winzip file) place in the same place as option 1 and select with in the start menu on the phone ;)

Whilst I'm here I may aswell point out that ringtones (on the C500) can be placed in the root of the storage card and selected as a ringtone. ringtones have to be placed in Storage/Application Data/Sounds to be used as a contacts individual ringtone

All the best with your new phone hope this has helped and don't forget RTFM

I expect It's a PC app, not one to run on your phone.

Thanks for guide. This has been bugging me too.

I have another question along the same lines though.

What is a plugin and how should I use one to access Power Calendar, Power Tasks, Smartphone Notes and Smartphone Find from my homescreen?

I am using the std Orange homescreen at the moment as I like the vertical icon bar.

) other people's xmlPlugins are what shows information on your homescreen. There are different ones for different functions (messages, calendar, etc).

If you really want to understand homescreens, just download one you like the look of, and then have a look at the xml file & the images. IT'll soo become clear what goes where. Most people around here (like me) just learned to customise homescreens by ripping apart/ripping off ( ) other people's screens!

There are loads of posts here about customisation. Use the search function to fins stuff. IT'll be quicker & easier than asking heaps of questions one by one.

Thanks DrBlow. I have tried to read through some of the customisation threads but they all seem to be written by and for people who already know what they are doing.

I've also had a look at a couple of XML files but they're HUGE!

I was hoping there might be a beginners guide to homescreens that somebody could point me to.

I did a beginners guide a while ago, but it's buried in the forum somewhere! I'm fairly sure there's others around.

What do you mean xml files are huge?? I mean, it may look like alot of code at first, but read the stuff in the articles thread (click plugin). All the plugins are just much the same code repeated.

Look at a simple xml file, not one with the e200 plugin in it! The layout will become clear quickly. It's nowehere near as complicated as it looks at first & if you understand even basic html principles, you'll understand this.
