Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 the title is not descriptive but.. Starting yesterday my phone began to loose sound every couple of seconds. I am talking on the phone and suddenly sound is off, then a sec after it is back. As time went by the problem become even more serious, it occurred more frequently and now I get to hear something every couple of seconds. I have no idea what happened.. I do not understand why. :?: The facts are : I did not change anything within the phone I installed WM2003 but that was at least 2 weeks ago Right now when I make a call , if I am luckily I get to hear anything at all... It seems though that the caller on the other side has the same problem, the people I spoke with told me that they cannot hear anything at all during those breaks. So it is not that the speaker is dead. I phoned my beloved cellular network provider (Rogers) and they said I should check my phone. Did anyone had anything that reassembles this ... maybe you've heard of a case as such with a different phone ?what was the problem. In short, I need help!!:!: tomorrow I am organizing a huge party and the amount of calls I am going to receive will be outrageous, without my phone it is going to be just a disaster.
Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 also an additional question Since I installed WM2003 the volume level of the phone dropped. I can barely hear it now, the best bet is to put it on vibrate and put the phone in my pocket, which is not always very comfortable. Does anyone know how to solved this as well ?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 As the mic and speaker are not linked it seems a strange hardware fault unless the aerial is having problems. Have you tried a hard reset since you had this problem?
Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 what is Ariel ? I didn't you think it is going to help? I do not like reseting all of my settings.
Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 ok I retested the phone, I was wrong!!! the people on the other side can hear me. I know why this problem started but I still have no solution. My phone has a problem switching from a headphone mode where I can use a microphone to regular mode without a microphone. Last night I tried the microphone for the first time since 3 month or so. no the first time I tried it was when I bought the phone, and I had a problem swtiching from one to the other. I was no able to swtich to the head phone and I would hear nothing unless I would press the button and then it would swtich for a couple of minutes. Now I have the same problem in regular mode, there might be a problem in the sound redirection... can someone solve this ? if you need more info I will explain, I know it is a little complicated
Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 I ma adding more info... the problem of the phone seems to be a hardware problem, the swtich that indicates the connection between headphone or speak is not working (or as we call it in the professiona lingo fcuked) it seems to be stuck in the middle niether speak nor headphone.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 It is possible that there is either a poor connection on the speaker connection or the cable on the flip hinge is faulty. As for the headsetnormal profile this is operated by a makebreak connection so there cannot be an in-between state. If you do not try a hard reset you will not be able to confirm if the problem is definately hardware or software.
Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 I did try a hard reset. The problem did not go away so it seems that it is a hardware problem. I must say though that it is better now for some reason, but not conclusivly. It did not become ok after the hard reset, I opened it up and tried to blow some "invisible" dust off of it. It seems to work for now, but the problem repeated itself. I must mention as well that, the talk button that supposed to switch between the 2 modes does not work. The reason is unknwon, it is either because the hinge is faulty or because the button itself is not working so well.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 When you say the button are you refering to normal mode and speakerphone? This will only work while in a call.
Guest matador Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 as far as I know there is an option that allows your to swtich between the headphone and the speaker @ the top of the cellphone that you would use if you have no headphone. The "talk" is used in order to toggle between the two options. By pressing a long press on the talk button. It does not work for me... what it does it it switches something and I can hear for 1 sec and then it goes away. If i press a prolonged press again, I can hear 1 second and then it goes away.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 As discussed on IRC the button press was the Normal and Speakerphone option, not headphones. next step it the check speaker connection on the phone.
