Guest Xethmir Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 I think my c500 has just turned into an expensive toy: I bought a C500 from Ebay about two weeks ago and it was working fine with an orange pay as you go SIM. Yesterday it lost all signal and said "denied, searching." I rang up Orange and they say my SIM needs to be reregistered to the new handset, but they won't do it because I didnt purchase the upgrade. Oops. Any ideas of a way around? Would unlocking the phone to any SIM help at all? TIA!
Guest PinkPig Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 Hmm.... I'm not sure, but is that what happens if the IMEI is blocked? (ie. if you're bought a stolen phone which has now been reported stolen) That problem doesn't arise just because of using a phone with a different SIM card. Have you tried doing a hard reset?
Guest Xethmir Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 I see what you mean. I tried a valid pay monthly Orange SIM in the phone and it refused that too. I suppose I could ring Orange and ask them if its on a blacklist, but wouldn't that make me liable or something?! The Ebayer I bought it from had a pretty good rating (3000+) although I suppose that doesn't mean much! Hard Reset did nothing constructive, though thanks for reminding me it was possible.
Guest Confucious Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 I don't think you can be liable if you bought in good faith. If it is blacklisted than the seller should be made to say where he got it from and should (provided he is inocent), refund your money if it is blacklisted. Just out of interest, how much did you pay for it?
Guest martin Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 It's possible that the seller has simply lost his SIM and Orange have barred both the SIM and it's associated IMEI (on their records), which happens to be your C500  If the seller has a good rating on ebay then maybe he will be happy to sort it out with Orange.
Guest Xethmir Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 Thank you all for such helpful suggestions - as you can imagine, my mind is in disarray at having spent £200 on a phone that lasted a week. I will contact the seller and keep you posted. Thanks again.
Guest Xethmir Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Just got my phone back from HTC. All solved - they installed a new MB supposedly. So relieved its working again! Thanks again for your advice.
Guest Pondrew Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 Just got my phone back from HTC. All solved - they installed a new MB supposedly. So relieved its working again! Thanks again for your advice. Nicely done... what was the fault you reported? Unable to place calls?
Guest Xethmir Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 I just explained the error I was getting when I rang them up. They then sent me a form and in the "problem" box I filled the error in again. The sheet they sent back says that they ran diagnostics, replaced the MB and tested. One of the testers' name and phone number was still in my dialed calls so they def checked it worked!
