Guest darkyl Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 There are some Gps receivers that use a usb connection to connect to notebooks and Pda's... I was wondering if they can be used with the SPV c500 as an alternative to bluetooth gps receivers. I know, most usb receivers are powered through the usb cable, and this is impossible to do with the SPV c500 but there are also some that use batteries or cigarette lighter cable AND usb connection. Anyone knows if this solution can be used with the SPV or not?
Guest Confucious Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I would doubt it as they would probably need drivers. (I could be wrong). Why not use Bluetooth?
Guest peterweg Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 It won't work, I believe, because the USB on the c500 is not a USB Host. Some newer PDA's have USB host (acer n30) which is great as they can connect to external drives etc if drivers are available,.
Guest janp92 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I dunno if this is relevant but a friend of mines girlfriend i think has the E200 she managed to get a usb cable with a female connector on the end which she uses to plug in on of those USB Key things and external hds so maybe it could work?

Well i guess gps and usb storage pen work differently... anyway i'm interested in that since I have a couple of those pens i could use... do you know exactlu which cables did she use? A male mini usb on one end and a female on the other? Or a usb gender changer? (never seen them in the stores, but i guess they exist)
Guest darkyl Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 She must have used something like this... http://www.casecooler.com/usbab5pgech.html sure it worked? Both to store data and to install apps on the pen?
Guest Confucious Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I thought it would not work with USB storage devices (I was convinced of it) If your girlfriend has got it to work with a cable and external USB storage can you let us know exactly what she is using because i am very interested (iyt would be great if I can get it to work) Thanks

Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Now this I would like to see, the E200 is not a USB connector but a serial one and the properties are different than the C500.
