Guest sonicmonkey Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Afternoon folks, First post and yes I did do a search for the answer before posting and couldn't spot anything  I know the C500 is a fairly recent release but in phone lifecycle terms it's probably middle aged now. I'd love to short list it and purchase it as a PAYG phone and have it unlocked for use with Vodafone. Are then any immient plans for a C500 replacement which would add features such as wireless LAN functionality? I've read a few articles in some of the technology magazines hinting that phones with wireless lan were not to far in the distance and I don't want to take the plunge if the makers of the C500 are planning an overhaul anytime soon. Your comments are greatly appreciated. (Slight OT but has anybody got (or is it even possible) the C500 working with HTTP/RPC Outlook type access?)
Guest kurtfhouse Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 If there were any plans for an overhaul I am sure we would have heard about it here first  'In the not too distant future' doesn't really mean anything, could be six months could be a year could be two, if you keep waiting for phones with more and more features you'll end up waiting forever and even when there are published timescales the fence posts can be moved (look at the Neonode N1, over two years some people have waited!) The fact is at the moment the C500 is probably the best MS Smartphone on the market and with some web shops selling it at £159.99, why not just buy it now? The phone is only about 3-4 months old and I don't think there will be a replacement in the immediate future (six months or so at least). So in short its a great phone, take the plunge, if a phone comes out with wireless LAN in six months time you know what to get next
Guest sonicmonkey Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Thank you for the reply. I know exactly what you mean regarding waiting, it's the same sentiment regarding purchasing of any sort of electronic device. When friends and family ask if they should wait for a newer PC to hit the markets that wait could be forever! The problem(?) is the phone market is so dynamic your device could become redundant before you've got to the "checkout" page of an online retailer and you want to make sure you are making the right decision. I sincerely apologies about the following question as I'm sure its been answered elsewhere but does the C500 have a speakerphone al la Nokia 6230 etc? I've trawled the net and some site state yes and others simply don't mention it. I went to an Orange retailer on Saturday and asked the same question and the response from the "Phone Trainer" was I think so  Say if you receive a phonecall do the Softkeys allow you to answer with a Loudspeaker? Thanks in advance.
Guest kurtfhouse Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Yes the C500 does have a loud speaker, just hold the green button for about 2 seconds to activate it
Guest Pulse Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Where can you get it for 160 quid?
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Try here http://www.mobiledealer.co.uk/product.asp?...chFor=&PT_ID=76 on Orange Pay as you Go
