Guest jvo8 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Hi, (phone: smt5600) I know that you can't erase any files that are in the rom. But what about files that are not? I copies some files to my storage card so I have backup for speed dail, photo contact, ect. but now I go to delete it from my storage card, it won't let me. It tried deleting it directly from the phone and the PC. I tried renaming it and still it does not work. Someone please help. I hate how OS03 it is so restrictive in copying, moving and deleting files!!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 You need to understand the way the system works before trying to uninstall files. Anything in resident memory cannot be deleted and a reboot will fix this. Normally if a file cannot be deleted you can change the file extension, you will then have to reboot the phone before deleting the actual file in question.
Guest jvo8 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Still doesn't work. I renamed all the files and folder, shut off the phone, turned it on and still same error message. Do I have to remove the storage card? I figured anything on storage card is free and it shouldn't be restrictive to deleting.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Try deleting the files with the file manager on the phone, or try Smart Explorer from www.binarys.com
Guest jvo8 Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 I've done both the above and still can't delete. My only guess is to format the memory card externally with a card reader. Can you think of why it is this difficult? Why is OS03 so anal? I really need to get rid of the security feature.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 It's not the OS that is stopping you from deleting otherwise everyone else would be having the same problem. As for formatting the card, I would use binarys Task Manager and format it when it's in the phone.
