Guest filao Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Just seen that the Martin Fields Overlay+ for the C500 is now available at Mobile Fun (UK). Just wanted to know if anyone has used on of these on another handset, or anyone who may have one for the C500. It says it's reusable but surely it's sticky so how can that be? The only thing I could find on the net was here.
Guest daz306td Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I've been looking at these myself Richard from www.fonejunkie.com contacted me earlier this week to tell me that they were in stock - are they just similar to the plastic covers you got on the phone when it was first delivered?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I just used the original that came with the phone and cut it to the correct size :D Being a cheapskate helps sometimes
Guest spvdk Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 awarner, I tried the same thing, but the screen doen't look so good. Instead I took an old MFOP from my P900 (sold it when I got my C500) and cut it to size. It's a lot better... Anyway, right now I am not using any protector. I needed one for the P900 because the screen was in contact with the pen constantly, but I think I treat my C500 gently enough to do without...
Guest ThatTree Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I have one on my phone now with what I would describe as mixed results, but favorable enough that I'm willing to enjoy the day-to-day protection it provides. Pros: very transparent and shiny, giving phone's screen a beautiful glassy glow, especially when backlit. Easy to partially remove, clean using scotch tape on either surface, and then reapply using pressure with the edge of a credit card. Martin Fields customer service is responsive and helpful. They are replacing one of my protectors that had a scratch in it (they seemed surprised by my report of this, so with luck this means it's rare). Also, if you order on the overlayplus.com web site, the company sends you the protectors surprisingly quickly in an envelope with cool-looking Singapore postage stamps! Cons: The phone's screen surface itself is not flat, especially at the edges. Thus the screen protector, which is flat, may not be able to bind to the full surface of the screen -- again, especially at the edges. This doesn't look great when the phone or its screen backlight is turned off (kind of a "water under microscope slide" uneven edge). This isn't that noticeable when the backlight is on, but it definitely looks cheesy otherwise. Thankfully these not fully attached edges don't trap dust-- the protector does stay on. The Pocket PC Techs WriteShield I use on my Tablet PC has the same problem, but the edges are much harder to see (possibly because the screen is flatter to begin with). I think it may be common to all adhesive-based protectors. WriteShield is great with a stylus because of the texture, but it's much more opaque/diffuse compared to Overlay Plus. (Just for grins I tried "writing" with my tablet stylus on the surface of the Overlay Plus; the downside of its shininess/transparency is much more drag on the stylus compared to WriteShield.) The other problem I've had is with the rigid backing on which the protector is shipped -- it is quite hard to remove. Overall I'm happy for now, especially with the vendor's service, but I wish there were a better solution for the edge issue.
Guest Confucious Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 I used protectors on my PPc and my A920 - both of which have touch screens so IMHO need protectors. But I've found no need for one on my C500.
