Control Media Player with Phone Closed?

Is there any program out there that can:

A. Read input from the side "Up/Down" key on an MPX220 (F6 and F7 key) WHILE the device is closed

B. Then send a foward/previously command to WMP9?

I'm thinking it would greatly enchance the useability of the MP3 player on this phone (BetaPlayer doesn't work on it right now)
