A Few developers / General Questions

Hi all...

I'm not a complete newbie to this site, i have been browsing for well over a year (since my E100) but haven't posted all that much!

Cutting to the chase, i'm a finalist on a Computer Science honours degree at Warwick University and have chosen my 'project' to be based on a remote desktop enviroment - to control a PC from a phone. The main emphasis was to be able to give me as much functionality as possible with minimal data transfer between devices (as we all know data cost on mobiles ain't cheap and quick) - so was considering litterally SSH'ing into terminals and kinda running things through a command prompt enviroment.

First few questions i really could do with some help on is what development tools are 'best'. I've obviously read quite a bit on .NET framework, but is this really the best route?

I have a C500, but ideally being a bit more versatile (i.e. able to use on more than a smartphone) would be better. Would java not be out of the question?

Another query... how easy is it to establish a connection via bluetooth? I assume the best way re connecting via GPRS is to establish an internet 'server' to communicate with? Anyone also know of any SMS applications that allow a PC to receive basic text messages - and or send text messages??

Any help / advice on any of these matters would be excellent. I mean, my main area of programming has been in java, but am quite fluent in lots of other languages too, just could do with a kick up the backside and a direction which way to go!

Cheers in advance,

Nick

p.s. sorry if this is in the wrong section!
