Guest liv3wire Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 i know a lot of software do download ie smart explorer, pocket music have "exit" in the menu so u can quit the app, however media player and album and sms viewer dont, so when u hit the home button they keep running and u need to kill it via taskmanager which is a bit of an arse on, has no one, or could no one come up with some sort of simple app that could close the open program, it could be active by a system wide keypress? i know theres a prog called hotkey, when u double tap the homekey it will launch whatever apps u want, atm i have it launch the smart explorer clean up thing which kills everything but you have to either wait 10 secs for it to do it or click quit, it also kills EVERYTHING i think something that would just close ur active program would be cool.
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I don't exactly know the reason, but Windows designed the Smartphone platform to be run that way. Xbar is an alternative 'Task Bar' application for shutting down apps or iMenu will give you a restart.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 The thinking behind not having an exit option (and a requirement for an application to be certified by MS) is that any application in the background should not be using any CPU time and minimal memory etc. Unfortunatly we know this does not always happen and so we have to turn to the likes of Task Manager.
Guest mattie01 Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 ermm.. this may sound silly but for the life of me i can;t find a close option for internet explorer which really should have been ms certified  and same goes for the recorder...
Guest mwille Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 has no one, or could no one come up with some sort of simple app that could close the open program, it could be active by a system wide keypress? I've got one word for ya : Xbar 2  It's a must-have for every smartphone.. Check : http://xetranet.free.fr/xbar2/
Guest jvo8 Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 I believe with Media and IE not having a quit option is becuase they can be working in the background. This gives you the option of listing to music will playing games or emailing. Same goes for IE. You can still do other things on your phone while waiting for the page to download. Remember its the size of files being downloaded and not the airtime so its fine to keep connected.
Guest olly_k Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 don't know if this might help but I have have task manager assigned to speed dial, so I can hit the appropriate key from homescreen and have it come up instantly.
