Guest incognitolad Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Hey everyone! Just after a little bit of advice... I managed to drop my beloved C500 down the toilet today. It was only submurged for about 2 seconds but I think its absolutely knackered. I took the battery off and everything was swimming in water. I dryed off the SD card and sim card and the battery contacts and turned it on again. It was alright to start with but then it developed a few problems. Firstly, the screen is now very pale - almost unreadable. Its like all the colour has gone from it. Secondly, after about being on for about half hour the battery started to run out really quickly. It was fully charged this morning. Thirdly, It had some problems turning on. Went into Bootloader one time and froze on the Orange screen a couple of times. Are these things normal after being submurged in water? I'm really worried about the battery as I don't fancy spending £40 on a new one from Orange. Also, Whats the best way of drying it out? I'm back on my E200 at the moment. Not sure I can take it much longer. Help me!
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Have a read of this thread : http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=8689...15a0ac3f001b59f So what were you doing with the phone in the toilet ?
Guest incognitolad Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 I still can't believe I managed to do it tho. I'm normally so careful with it. It was literally some bad luck. If it had fallen about a centimetre the other way then it would have just bounced off the rim and landed on on the floor - but it bounced on the rim and then *plop*, I had a swimming C500! I fear my screen is totally f**ked tho. Might have to give Orange Care a call and see what I can do about water damage. I can't see any mention of it in the leaflet I got with my cover.
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Loads of people have done it. I've taken calls there so it'll probably happen to me one day  Is it covered by your ordinary household contents insurance ?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 I would leave the phone for a good couple of days at least with the battery removed to try and dry the phone out properly. Powering on shortly after swimming is when the damage will happen. If you do not get any luck replacing the phone with Orange I could use a phone to rip apart and play with
