Guest Kuipo Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 ok so here's the situation. I disagree with paying per KB for internet connection. But i currently have unlimited minutes on my phone plan. So I want to dialup to a free internet connection I know of in my area. Problem is, when i setup the connection as follows (This is a free service that would work if it dialed it at all): Connects to: The Internet Country Code: 1 Area Code: 206 Phone Number: 4951000 User Name: guest Password: password Domain: (Leave Blank) it doesn’t dial. I know it doesn’t dial cuz I set the number to my house's phone number and it doesn’t ring my phone. There are no GPRS/Proxy/VPN connections that might be screwing with it. I tried setting IE to every possible option I could lol. Any suggestions? Thanks for help in advance.
Guest Kuipo Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 so no one has a solution to this? or has tried doing it b4?
Guest martin Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 You will need to check with your network provider that they allow data calls over GSM. Also data calls will be charged seperately to voice calls so they may not be included in your free minutes.
Guest McHale Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 What you need on your account is CSD (Circuit Switched Data). I'm assuming you're on Cingular. It has to be added to your account and costs 3.99 a month. I have it (got it when it was free). Without CSD activated, it won't work... -Mc
Guest Kuipo Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 thanks. i'll give that a try and post an update ~.^
Guest gapfilmvideo Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 did you ever get dial up to work on cingualr....????? iam in the same boat...
Guest Kuipo Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 i havent gotten arround to doing it yet rofl. i will keep checking this post till i do tho :)
Guest McHale Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 well, I suppose I can try rephrasing it. IT WILL NOT WORK UNTIL YOU CALL CINGULAR AND TELL THEM TO ADD CSD TO YOUR ACCOUNT. The feature code is WIG in their system and it costs 3.99 a month. There is no other way for it to work. I am using dial-up on my MPX220 and it works slick. -Mc
Guest gapfilmvideo Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 i have that on my account .... i have done this in the past with v600 and ipaq ppc 2215.....just can't get it to work with mpx220..... MCHALE are you using laptop or ppc... i am starting to wonder if ppc is lacking a driver or something that comes standard in most laptop bluetooth wizard or if it is the phone or both....
Guest McHale Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 I'm using dial-up *WITH* my MPx220. I don't use GPRS. I do all my web browsing on my phone dialing into SBC. But, I have connected to the web with my iPAQ 5555. Haven't had any problems with that. My laptop doesn't have BT so I can't test it. All I did with my PPC was set up a dial-up connection and used BT as the modem type (or something like that). When I get home, if you want, I can tell you what my PPC settings are. -Mc
Guest gapfilmvideo Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 that would be most appreciated....i am leaving work shortly myself and might not be able to check back....please respond hear or pm me......i can't even make the thing dial via bluetooth from outlook on my ppc.....
Guest Kuipo Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 sry to dig up old posts.. but i FINALLY got arround to trying this out. seems that cingular doesnt support CSD any longer, most likely so people wont do what im attempting to do. shitty. oh well. if anyone else has any other ideas.. im all ears

I can connect to internet my iPaq using a T616 from Sony Ericsson using the SIM card from Cingular, then if I take the same SIM card and change it to my mpx220 I can't connect using the same setting that I was using on my T616, this indicates that it's not anything that has to be changed in my Cingular Account. It's something that is not working right in the Motorola mpx220.
