To clarify you mean that you bought a new phone that had a newer rom version and gapi doesnt work yeah?

for the benifit of newbies:

They way you wrote your posts you make it sound like the standard c500 doesnt have wm smartphone 2003 se - it does!

So orange DK dont test there new roms either? Is this rom version available for download?

I did not buy the phone, but someone did get this one, brand new, last week in Denmark.

And yes, it appears to have a newer ROM. Isn't 4.1.4.0 a very recent ROM ?

Sorry, I was not sure that this was the case. I personally don't have a C500.

And to clarify: yes, this is a new bug, different from the previous bug.

In the previous GAPI bug, GAPI was incorrectly using a DRAM frame buffer, but it was not broken, i.e. it was functionning, and applications that could handle DRAM buffer had no problems.

Now it appears to be really broken... so it is not the same bug.

Apparently the word "test" is not in the dictionnary of very many Smartphone manufacturers or Operators.

Or maybe they don't include any game or video application in their tests ?

I don't know if this ROM version is available for download.

I see... so the x can be anything ?

4.1.1.4 is more recent than 4.1.4.0 ?

Still, it's interesting that this device uses a different SPI_GETOEMINFO string.

Ah, so it's the old rom...

Well, it's a different old ROM from what we had tested before, because it has a different OEM info string, causing some applications implementing the GAPI workaround to fail, because they don't identify the device correctly with this ROM.

The x is the COUNTRY identfier.

The last digit is the 'newness' of the ROM, so in your question, 4.1.1.4 is newer than 4.1.4.0

I had the impressions that all Smartphones included many languages in the ROM, so why the hell do they have to make different ROM's for different countries ?

basically every network have to customise the rom, ie gprs settings etc etc. Some networks also take the opertunity to add some useful apps etc etc

But I don't think it's a good idea to change the OEM Info string.

And I don't think HTC is very smart in using OEM Info strings that don't contain their model name or number!

The ROM will have been customised by the Danish operator NOT HTC. The UK ROM is customised and supplied by Orange.

Don't blame HTC for someone else's mistake.

We tried using the GAPI workaround on this device (i.e. using the address returned by GETGXINFO to di direct access to the frame buffer), but apparently this does not work very well, or there are other problems with this Danish version of the C500.

I wouldn't be surprised if many games had also problems on this device...

can you confirm that it is just the Danish versions running this particular ROM that are affected and NOT all C500s as implied by the thread title?

Well, as you know, many other C500 have similar problems with GAPI (depending on their ROM version), but I have the impression that this Danish one have slightly different problems.

We are investigating.

For example, even when we work around the GAPI problem, this device still does not run PocketTV correctly, while other C500 have no problems.
