Guest sledgeweb Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 Hello- Yesterday, Best Buy was offering the mpx220 for $50 with new cingular activation. I couldn't pass it up, but, I didn't want to leave T-Mobile. I happened to know a friend who was about to sign up with Cingular, so, I got them to get the mpx220, and then I gave them my mpx200 and we switched SIM cards. Everything seems to work fine (we can both make and receive calls), but, I do have two questions: 1) On the mpx220 now on T-Mobile, whenever I make a call, the calling screen comes up, then it flashed to a screen that says "CALL DIVERT ACTIVATED" then goes back to the calling screen and dials out. I can't find anything in the manual about CALL DIVERT ACTIVATED!! What is this? How can I turn it off? Should I turn it off? 2) On the mpx200, which is originally at AT&T phone that I used under T-Mo after unlocking it and is now being used with CINGULAR: The phone shows the triangle Icon, which is supposed to indicate roaming. And, the carrier name shows up as AT&T Wireless instead of Cingular. However, if I stick the cingular SIM in the mpx220, there is no triangle and the carrier name shows up as Cingular. Why would the carrier name and triangle show up differently on the mpx200 using the same SIM? And, is it really roaming? Or is it just confused? Would upgrading the firmware to SmartPhone2003 fix this? (the mpx220 runs 2003) I have the 2003 firmware, but haven't installed it yet. Thanks for the advice, Sledge
Guest bradmatejo Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 re: question 2 The phone will show whatever network it's currently catching. Since Cingulair and ATT are merging, they've been sharing towers and whatnot so I wouldn't be surprised to see either carrier on the screen. While driving around Texas on Thanksgiving, I saw ATT, Cingulair, TMobile and some carrier that identified itself with just numbers. And that's just the times I happened to look at my phone in the car. Don't know about the roaming indicator though. I do know roaming charges are based on whether the network sees you as roaming, not on what's showing on the phone. Wouldn't hurt to take it to a Cing shop to ask; since it's originally an ATT phone you're not doing anything "unsupported" and they should be able to help.
Guest cinimod1000 Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 Re question 1). Took my phone to Florida (Naples) and had the same problem. Made some calls and "Call Divert Activated" flashed on the screen, then it made the call. By the fourth day, it did this, and would then drop the call after about 10 to 20 seconds. I am in the Dallas Fort Worth Area, and it works fine there - does not flash the message. Are you on T-Mobile (I am)? What's your software version (I've got .342)?Perhaps the network is diverting the call (unsuccessfully in my case)....????? any ideas anyone??

Well, the thing is, if I take the SIM out and put it in the mpx220, it comes up CINGULAR. If I take the SIM out and put it in the mpx200, it comes up AT&T. This is while I'm at the same location, so, it should be getting the same signal. It seems like it is something with the phone, but, I can't figure out what it would be. Might have to get Cingular's help on this.

I haven't had any dropped calls, but, it does flash CALL DIVERT ACTIVATED before any call. What exactly is being diverted? And to where?
Guest cortez Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 call divert appears on my phone when i'm using a bluetooth headset. are you guys using bluetooth headsets or wired-headsets when you see the message? one option would be to turn off bluetooth and see if the "call divert" message disappears.

No, I'm not using a headset of any kind, or any bluetooth device. With bluetooth on or off, I get the Call Divert Activated screen.
Guest chanceu Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 The reason your're getting Cingular on one phone and AT&T on the other phone is that the Cingular is 850MHz and AT&T is 1900MHz. The 200 is tri-band and cannot receive the 850MHz Cingular signal. The 220 is quad-band and can receive either the 850MHz Cingular singal or the 1900MHz AT&T signal. Since the preferred carrier is Cingular on the Cingular SIM, the SIM forces the phone to the Cingular service if it is available.
