Is the Nokia 6630 better then Qtek 8010?! Wtf? 220 MHz > 200 MHz?! I who thought that all symbian 60 had 104 MHz?! Is it time to leave microsoft now? Should i throw my c500 in a wall and get a nokia?

The Nokia 6630 is a 3G/2G phone so you would really want to ensure that you have 3G coverage to get the best from this phone.

Personally, I would prefer to see HTC (or other) bring out a 3G version of an MS Smartphone 8) The C500 will keep me happy till then

processor speed isnt everything, and to be honest, it depends on the type of processor and what its used for.

An example of this is the Mitac Smartphones, which can be overclocked to 300mhz, yet, even an overclocked mitac is slower than the C500 when playing the Yeti demo. Also, why do you need it to be any quicker? do you think the c500 is slow? the only reason you'd really need that speed is for gaming, and 200mhz is fine (for the moment)

oh, and if you wanna see if it owns the c500, look here.....

http://www.jbenchmark.com/index.html?F=2

as i said, mhz ratings dont actually mean all that much, and mean even less cross platform

I agree, raw speed isn't the the best judge of a phone like it might be for PCs.

Whilst a fast CPU does help a smartphone, I think that UI design, stability, boot-up times, features, range of third party apps, etc. are more important.

I you want a 3G smartphone in Europe then your options are limited to the Nokia 6630 or Motorola A1000 at the moment though. Two decent phones, but it would be nice if there was more choice.

There is a lot more choice. Haven't realy gotten in to it but did see some 3G phones in a Vodofone shop. there are at least 6 different models.

and more are schedualed I was told.

The Nokia 6630 is the only smartphone in Vodaphone's line-up though - the rest are boring non-smartphones. I was specifically talking about the choice in 3G smartphones.

I am actually pretty sure C500/SP3/HTC is much better than NOKIA, of course NOKIA has a 1.3Mpx Digital Camera, good movie quality, simply everything.

There is one "BUT" - lets say you just bought this phone, I can promise you that in less than half year there will be another super NOKIA which is of course better and more expensive than yours. And it will be like this forever!

HTC is "RARE" company, there are only a few phones they made and you will never see as many HTC in stores as NOKIA, simply NOKIA is not a "rare" phone. Thats why I have HTC.

When people see my phone they are asking me whats the brand, how expensive it is, what does it have inside,......

I think this is making HTC kind of "rare" phones.

Example: You can see "many" Mercedeses S-classe (last model) on a roads. Of course the are top of the line. But can you also see many Maserati Quattroporte? They both are same price (S500 or S55 and Maserati). Thats making things more rare.

BUT THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION. I RESPECT ALL OPINIONS.

And G3 is still not very important for you at the moment. Maybe in a few years when it will be standart.

First time it will be really expensive and you will probably change your phone again...

I used to own a couple of nokias before the first SPV came out. The big advantage for me that nokia has over any of the HTC smartphones(and I have owned them all bar the C500 and I have used one of those for a while) is that it provides much better implementations of the things u would expect on a basic fone. Features such as T9, which has been for me the achilles heel of smarphones. The poor build quality, my e200 keys kept sticking and it even rung a few people at random inculding the emergency services a few times. Bluetooth is now an expected feature and the microsoft stack in smartphone is only partially implemented meaning the full bluetooth standard is not really supported (we have dropped some smartphone mobile projects for this very reason ). Just try and send an address book entry to another fone from ur smartphone, its not very compatable at all, though as a business user I would believe this is the most advantages feature of bluetooth. With my new SE s700 I can use it as a bluetooth mouse and control my PC (windows xp sp2) with a bluetooth dongle without any software installation or configuration. I can send a contact to any type of phone I have tried, including nokias, motorola and my e200. The sound quality on HTC devices are crap, although the c500 is much improved its still way behind nokias and my SE s700.

Don't get me wrong I love my E200 for what it is, a phone with excellent features, however the features which really let it down are those that a basic phone requires and nokia implements very well. So why do I love my smartphone, first because its highly configurable, extremely easy to develope software for, loads of free tools and tweaks etc already there. Its quirky bugs and work rounds give me something to do and mess around with. The support from other smartphone users is second to none, this forum is fantastic.

Basically what I am saying is someone with a computer background or an interest in gadgets and technology will be fasinated by smartphone. Though most people just want a reliable phone. For an example I gave my old SPV to a friend after a day he went back to his old nokia, he didn't have a clue how to use the SPV.

My SE s700 can do everthing better than my e200, bluetooth conectivity, sound quality, a radio, java support everything. Its a fantastic fone and has many nice features to mess around with. Now with codewarrior, nokia and SE getting together producing a standard Symbian 7 UIQ SDK and development environment free software can be developed. Though I will still hold onto my e200.

That site doesn't look correct! C500 Resolution 176 x 180? WTF?

Have i mist something or what? I have always thought it had 220 x 176?

Macker1973

The only thing s700i has is a cam, nothing other! And i do more like to buy a IXUS 40 @ 40 $ with 4.0 Megapixels than a s700i @ 70 $ with 1.3 crappy megapixels!

Edit: AND HOW THE **** CAN C500 BE MORE POWERFULL THAN QTEK 9090 ( M2000 ) ?!!!!!!!

Posted

176 x 180 must be a mistake. it's indeed 220 x 176

What I like about the smartphone is the fact it's got windows software. people who develope program's usually do this for windows. so the should be able to do the same with the phone.

in other words. I love the versatility of it. all whe ways you can change it. the app's you can get for it. the games. just everything. everything makes it in to the phone that does everything for/with us.

still.. how can the m2000 be slower then c500? yeah right!!

176 x 220 (not 220 x 176, cos that would be landscape) is the full size of the MS Smartphone display

176 x 180 is the size of the window jbenchmark runs in (220 y pixels minus title bar, minus buttons), so that site is very much correct.

The C500 can be better than the M2000 at doing java at a smaller display size, this is very possible (again, some processors are better at doing java than others at different clock speeds), and if you look at the number of submitted results for the C500 (and theres quite a few), you'll see the results are all quite similar meaning that figure is quite accurate.

edit: in fact, just downloaded and run jbenchmark2 and i get a score of 471, so the 474 result on the site is pretty accurate.

got an average of 414 for my imate SP3i, was quite sure it would have preformed better than the SP3/C500

no, that isnt accurate cos it isnt an average result (only 1 result posted), if you get 4 or 5 with the same result then yeh, its accurate (but i doubt more people will post the same as that), and look at the post above, 414 from an sp3i

Why do you think the SP3i should perform better than the C500 when they are, basically, the same phone?

I would be very suprised if the results are significantly different. (the 800+ result posted must be an anomally - or there is something we don't know about the SP3i!)

I note at http://www.jbenchmark.com/index.html?F=2 it shows the BEST result for each phone. Surely it would be a lot more meaningful if it showed an average. I'm getting about 444 from my C500.

Posted

coincidentally that 800 was from mine as well, dont know how it happened, however all other tests were in the 414 - 60 range then subbenly got the 800+ one, anyway uploaded the 5 results and have noticed the 800+ in their listings
