I've had my C500 less than 2 weeks yet the silver finish on the crappy joypad scroll thing is already wearing off on the little raised bit in the middle. Anyone else have this?

me too! I just noticed it. Playing too much snake was the culprit

Thing is I've had a very short amount of time and have hardly played any games on it as the joypad is a complete disaster of a design.

Not dropped or scratched my C500 once, yet the cheap silver 'spray' on the keys that are black plastic underneath is flaking off my hang up key terrible.

NOT impressed at all!

just noticed a silvery bit has flaked off my scroll pad thingy as well.

I guess we should have expected this as most HTC phones are pretty cheap in build quality.

My hang up key is fine, but noticed the tiniest amount of wear on the edges of the raised bit on the joypad. Hadnt noticed it before until you guys mentioned it and made me look! Damn you all!! ;-)

I have also had a piece of silver come off the scroll key - just to the left of the raised section. No, I dont play games. No, I havent droped it or anything. In fact, I have probably looked after this handset better than the wife and kids in the last month!!! The white plastic underneath is perfectly smooth, no scratches or anything.

It just looks like an area that wasnt prepared cleanly before the silver coating was applied.

It's not looking too clever guys, mine being worn in under 2 weeks without extensive ( or any! ) games playing. The joystick on my E200 started 2 show wear after about 11 months and I played games on that all the time. Imagine how s*** the C500 is going to look after a year!.

I just checked mine now to see if I had the same problem.

The top of the hangup button is a bit flaky (like two spots) and I have probably only used that key about 5 times since I got it a month or so ago!

Its like where it has rubbed off against the case when pressed down.

After 2 months of usage..

Interesting to see that the button is actually painted red before painted silverish.

@Kevlar: take it back to Orange while you are still covered by the 14 day money back guarantee. I guess this is why Orange started the big giveaway on pay as you go (for 149.99). They are aware of the problems and are trying to get rid of all C500 stock.

i am gettin the same thing on the scroll wheel thing, this is by using the phone in a normal way and not damaging it, doesent that mean that the phones case/buttons are failty(Not working as advertised) theirfor entiltling you to a relacment if you have had the phone for less than 12 months, i dont think orange would bee keen but has nayone tryed to kick up a fuss about it, if so let us all know what happened.

ya know, this wouldnt be an issue if these were replaceable cases. sadly its cheap quality casing. last year, i had the HTC Tmobile ppc phone edition, its paint peeled off very early too.

I doubt, this is a general HTC problem. The SDA is from HTC too and it has a very high quality surface. I can not imagine, that there would be something peeling off. On the other hand most SDAs around are about a month old.

Is this only a c500/sp3 problem or does this happen to the sp3i too?

Happened to the stick on mine too.

As far as I am concerned this comes down to a defect in workmanship and should be sorted out under manufacturers warranty. I for one am very dissapointed - makes you wander whats next? :?

Oh yea I have the Audiovox 5600 btw, so its not just a C500 problem.
