Guest mdw_cubed Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I have been looking into unlocking my E200. To get a permanently unlocked phone I had resigned myself to paying the £20 that seems to be the standard charge, but then found this UNLOCK ORANGE SPV E200 FOR ONLY 7 POUNDS 10 EUROS !!!! on Ebay. Has anyone tried it? Is it permanent?
Guest Jon_ Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 at a educated guess i would imagen that the method hes selling is similar to the patched e200 rom (which is in a sticky thread in this forum http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=116911)
Guest mdw_cubed Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 I have a feeling that may be the case as well. (I noticed the sticky thread earlier) I have asked the seller a question via ebay, I'll see what his response is. I don't want to be paying £7 for something that is actually freely downloadable.
Guest mdw_cubed Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Just got a reply from the seller. it is not permanent it patches the rom you will have to reaply the patch each time rom is updated So I guess I'll be paying my £20.
Guest Jon_ Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 what sucks is that im sure in the program that he will supply is a line of txt saying this program is free and you should not have paid for it, is it allowed on ebay to set up a 1p auction and just list the method on the item description?
Guest mdw_cubed Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 I'm not sure if it's officially allowed under Ebay rules, but I have seen listings on Ebay where the seller has said do not bid on the Auction. If you do a search for "Free information" on ebay you'll see a few listings. I'm sure there will be plently of unsuspecting buyers that will think it is a permanent unlock solution unless they know to ask the right question.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 You can report the auction to ebay as unlocking is not alowed there. Also you always get scum who steal others work to charge for it.
Guest usdiver Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 just read your message and the £20 is a good investment. however, if you want it done hassel free and properly, go through orange. I went through another place, (supposedly a reputable business... imei-check.co.uk) but found that after paying £20 not only do you have to mess around with codes and unlocking files, but you have to have xp for it to work...and even then, if it doesn't work, they won't refund the money once they send the unlocking key file to you, regardless if it had been used or not. In the end orange did it, sent my the unlocking code by e mail, and all I had to do was enter it in to the phone. wish I had known before. It took almost 2 weeks to get it, but it was worth it. In the event you get it unlocked...what network are you with? I am on o2 pay as you go (300 texts, 300 wap) but have been unable to get the settings I need to make the internet work. I have tried looking here and everywhere, and nothing I have seen will work so I don't know what to do now. it's an e200 as well. love the phone but can't afford to do the internet with orange. if you ever have any suggestions or advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...good luck with the unlocking
Guest mdw_cubed Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 usdiver, to be honest the unlock in no longer for me. I have just upgraded to a C500 so now have an E200 which I cannot convince my wife the benefits of   As a result I'm going to list it on Ebay and offer delivery worldwide. I have applied the free non-permanent unlock as detailed on the forum and intend to make this clear in the listing. The bidder can contact me to arrange permenant unlocking before shipment if necessary. (I was going to use the imei-check.co.uk method to unlock, I'll do a little more research before I use that method, thanks for the warning) I'd rather not spend the £20 if the phone goes to another Orange user. I'm on the basic Orange £4 GPRS pack of 3Mb per month which I rarely go over, mainly due to the fact I piggy back my PC's internet connection during the day and obtain email etc. in this way. GPRS is only ever used when I'm disconnected from the PC.
Guest usdiver Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I know I sound a bit slow here, but how do you piggy back on the pc's connection? you mean you can do that and not cost you on the phone tarrif? can you download screensavers, themes onto the spv that way? and can you do ebay and things like that on it too? the imei-check is a true waste of money, I know cause I've been there, and it's a headache as well. Going through orange was hassel free, the same price, and permanent. I am getting an o2 xda iis after christmas and want to do everything I can on the pc, but I'm a little behind on technology.
Guest mdw_cubed Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 You'll probably be able to find steps on how to do this piggy connection elsewhere on the forum. The steps I used can be found on coolsmartphone.com. I used this article on my original SPV, but it works with the E200 as well. See Internet Connection Fix - Orange SPV This second article is using Bluetooth and ActiveSync to enable the connection to be piggy backed via Bluetooth which is cool if you can get the BT range on your E200. See Bluetooth! E200? How? This final article may be of use, I only found it looking for the original two above :) See Surf the internet over Bluetooth on your E200!! I spotted the XDA Mini just after I had upgraded to a C500. I wonder whether I should have waited for it. I think it's just a bit wider than a C500, about the same height and depth (O2 Ann. XDA2 Mini (i.e. iMate Jam) for Asia Market initially) My personal feeling is that the XDA 2 is just too big for a phone.
Guest usdiver Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 I will have to look at this links, as I am a bit slow when it comes to things like this. The xda iis is much bigger than the c500. I saw the c500 this weekend and does not suit me at all. Going to get the o2 xda ii s some time next year. They have the built in keyboard as well.
