Guest SpicySamosa Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Orange have recently brought out the SPV M2000 which is a bit large for most people's pockets and apparently will only be available to business customers. In the meantime, T-Mobiel have brought out this little baby: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=614 http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/ht...gician-en.shtml Does anyone know whether Orange are bringing this same phone out at any time? I've heard that it is exclusive to T-Mobile in the UK, which is very sad if true. Please share any knowledge, otherwise I'm going to go with the SPV C500.
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Welcome to the forum  This device is also known as the i-Mate Jam. Have a look in the MoDaCo shop for more details.
Guest SpicySamosa Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Cheers bud. I'm more interested in whetehr I can get it on the cheap (i.e. on a contract) with Orange. BTW, I can't understand why so many people on this forum are going for the M2000 - it's far too big for a phone!!
Guest philgriffiths Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Welcome to the forum! You've got your eyes on what looks set to be a stonkingly cool piece of kit. Hope you get your hands on one and its everything your after. People who are going for the M2000 are doing so because they want more PDA functions in the device they use. Best way to divide it is to think of Smartphones like the SPVs and MDA as primarily a mobile phone, with some PDA functions added on. Devices like the M2000 are primarily PDAs with mobile phone functions added on if you follow me. At least thats how i look at it. Personally i think most people who own devices like the M2000 or the XDA series often have a secondary phone for use when its not practical, or not neccessary to carry around their PDA. It's all personal requirements and preference
Guest crafty Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 [homer voice]hmmmmmmmmmmmm iMate Jam[/homer voice] - lovely looking device. Expansys are offering it with a Vodafone contract so you can pick it up for as little as £165 if you get a heavy monthly contract.

You don't have to use the wee silly pencil do you? It's touch screen. wouldn't think you would need to use a stylus to dial though, keys would propablby me large enough to just use your paws. PS: drblow, Your not from anywhere near Newcastley by any chance?

Guest Disco Stu Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Lordy, here goes iDavid slobbering over the Jam in another thread  It is definitely a show-stopper though =p~
Guest drblow Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 PS: drblow, Your not from anywhere near Newcastley by any chance? :D No m8 - I'm from Belfasty! Thanks for that! I can't really see any good reasons so far NOT to get this jam thingy. It does look rather good.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 One reason: no wifi! But there are far more reasons for to out balance that against though (first one being that it looks damn cool!)
Guest lutzh Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 here are some details about the dialpad. its a system called IntelliPad, and it reminds a little on T9 and the smart search function in Smartphones phone book. actually pretty easy to use and thats what makes the mda compact a one hand use device in most cases... regarding wifi - sandisk offers the sd wifi card (with 256 mb storage if you want) - it works perfectly plug and play in the mda compact once you installed the driver. costs for that are cheap - standard sd wifi card is less than 75 euros at ebay at the moment. cheers, lutz
Guest nickcornaglia Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 this is the PPCPE I've been waiting for I think. Perfect Size. Full functionality. Cant wait til it's here in the US.
Guest Cue Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Actually its been announced by O2 as XDA II mini :) More details here
Guest someone Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 here are some details about the dialpad. its a system called IntelliPad, and it reminds a little on T9 and the smart http://smartphone.modaco.com/search.php>Search function in Smartphones phone book. actually pretty easy to use and thats what makes the mda compact a one hand use device in most cases... Cool, so this means you don't have to use a stylus to enter numbers or text via the IntelliPad, but just use your thumb to hit the soft keys?
Guest lutzh Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 yes, thats exactly what i want to tell you and what makes this ppc a possible smartphone replacement. at least for me i have made the decision already :-) cheers, lutz
Guest Maverick Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 What about SMS texting? Surely, u need the stylus to type text messages. Since Moto thinks 32mb is just fine for the Mpx :s , this phone is my next choice.
Guest lutzh Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 checkout the screenshots and the pic of the real screen (sorry, i have only a webcam here to do the pictures so it is a poor quality, but good enough to see that the virtual keyboard takes over half the screen and is in fact bigger than any smartphone keyboard then). you can do anything with just one hand as you can see. cheers, lutz ps: see the skin for the intellipad? personalize it the way you like it :-)
Guest someone Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 This is so cool! It has the stability and advantages of the PPC platform and the usability of a smartphone. I saw this picture on the net, it's even smaller than a good old cassette!live06.jpg
Guest MaximilianWeisheit Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 The MDA Compact is crazy!!! - This is the craziest SmartPhone! If they only had added the cradle, Wifi, and changeable OS language (without burning the ROM) then it would be already on my desk. - For now the SDA Musik will do. Only until sommer, then it should be out in the UK and I can get it for cheap under contract. Hopefully until then the WIFI Cards are smaller too. Just cant stand that it sticks out two centimeters. Ruins the whole form factor of the phone. Hopeful they can reduce it to a minimal bump. - I SAY just add it on to the mini SD cards and make it for the big SD slot. the technology is certainly here already, right?! Lutz, as always, awesome picks!!! Cheers, Max
Guest KingDaddy Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 I'm with encece on this one. Hopefully it'll be heavily subsidized, too!
Guest lutzh Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 ...you can meet me at the ces in las vegas between 06.-09. january 2005 to play with the compact ;-) cheers, lutz
