Guest beersoft Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 Here is another little app that needed making custom settings.exe - copies files from storage cardsettings to windows usefull if you want to change windows files on boot, or use midnights fine custom settings in the control pannel copy exe file to storagewindowsstartup or ipsmwindowsstartup (depending on the flavor of smartphone) make a folder on the sd card called settings (all lowercase) copy what you want to be in the windows folder after the phone boots in the settings folder reboot think "gosh, that beersoft is a clever chap" later Owencustom settings.exe

Guest beersoft Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 /.me ignores nedges prior art, and still thinks his program rocks (and it works, on all smartphones, with all file types) later Owen
Guest BrAGoL Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 /.me ignores nedges prior art, and still thinks his program rocks (and it works, on all smartphones, with all file types) later Owen really on "all smartphones"? like E100?
Guest beersoft Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 yep all smartphone, i haven't tested it as such, but the app will run on all phones because its done in evc2002, and im too lazy to learn .net later Owen
Guest crafty Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 cheers beery, but not working for me  I was trying to use this to overwrite Homescreen_MenuF.bmh and Homescreen_MenuS.bmh (As per this thread about customising the abaxia plugin) but with no luck. I'm not sure whats going on cus i also tried putting a blank wav in the settings folder called default.wav, restarted and still had the annoying ding, so guess it's not working for me on my non-updated C500.
Guest beersoft Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 its because some files are flagged as read only, so i might have to do some code for that :S i'll magic some better code later to make it work later Owen
Guest crafty Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 any luck in getting this to replace system files beery? Happy to be a beta tester of any new versions :)
Guest beersoft Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 ok, im getting stucker and stucker i thought "i know, lets make it do some logging and see what its upto" stuck some loging in and get this copying windowsclock.cpl.xml failed with error 5: (null) copied error windowsclock.cpl.xml manualy coped 0 copying windowserror.txt ok windowserror.txt an according to msdn error code 5 is "buggeroffandstoptryingtocopythatfileyoubugger" or access denied if anyone thinks of a clever way round this let me know later Owen "tried alsorts, even byte by byte basic file io and it still don't work"custom settings.exe
Guest nedge2k Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 You could try the command "$nothingtoseehereimjustplayingwithyourromtakenonoticeohlooktheresadonkey" Works for me :)
Guest looeee Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 dunno if this helps but... I wrote one of these apps too, for the same reasons, ages ago for my original spv I found that i had to put in a 10 second delay at boot-time while the sd card got initialised what phone/OS are you testing it on? looeee
Guest beersoft Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 its not the program not being able to find the files on the sd card, its the os saying "bog off" when you try and overwrite a system/rom attributed file later Owen
Guest nedge2k Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 He's got a point beery...i have to run the app after the phone has booted coz it wont copy otherwise. Works fine after that :)
Guest SCIZZORS Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 please forgive me im a little lost..can you give some examples of what to put in the settings folder?? like maybe if i wanted to change the startup screens permanently? (without screenchanger) or other examples?
Guest madu Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 error.txt > No files found. What I did: 1. Copy custom settings.exe to \IPSM\Windows\Start Up\ 2. Create a folder \Storage Card\settings (that is: \settings folder on SD card) 3. Copy clock.cpl.xml to \Storage Card\settings\ 4. Reboot phone. 5. Read error.txt on my phone :(( Also tried \IPSM\settings folder and also 2 files in settings folder - xml & exe..... So where is my problem?
