Guest matteastburn Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Hi Guys, I have a Dopod 565 (a HTC Typhoon variant) and was wondering if anyone has tried upgrading its firmware with the one Orange supplies on the internet for the GAPI fix??? (v4.1.1.4) I am just wondering if anything will go wrong during the install - as it might recognise that it is not an Orange SPV C500... If the ROM can be upfdated with this file that i have downloaded from Orange's web site - does that mean the phone will be then locked to the Orange network, so i will then have to unlock it so i can use my Australian Optus Sim card??? And will it be locked so i can no longer install apps to it??? Matt E
Guest mwille Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 I am not shure whether the checks will determine that your device is not an "SPV", when you run the ROM upgrade it does look at the rom version currently on the phone. But the hardware is identical so if the check does not get in your way you should be alright. But risk free it is not, flashing any devices ROM is never 100% riskfree. If you decide to do it the Orange ROM will not set a simlock for Orange but it WILL application lock your phone..
Guest matteastburn Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 What does apllication lock mean??? Can this feature be unlockerd? What are all the other topics that people talk about regarding unlocking there C500 - i assume it is to applicatio unlock it??? Matt E
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 Application Certification basically means that you can't install anything onto the phone that doesn't have a valid security certificate. To app unlock or decertify your phone, follow this link --> OTA
Guest mwille Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 An application lock means that certain uncertified software cannot be installed on the device. It also blocks some editing in the registry and prevents some files from being deleted or moved (start menu items for example) Removing this lock is relatively easy, it can be done over the air from the Orange UK site. The big question in your case would be whether that will work with your Dopod as the IMIE number is required for this process and your IMEI is not registered with Orange becuase it is a Dopod... Anybody ?
