HI

New to all this but hoping that I can find a solution and orange and Microsoft seem to be suffering from collaboration-itus and not wanting to sort the issue.. also apologies if this is listed elsewhere I did do a search but found nothing

I got a C500 yesterday, upgrading from E200.. I active synced it fine and then sucked the data from it via orange back up and restored it to the new phone.. hurrah worked great

Then active synced today and it bins me off as soon as recognizing the phone.. Orange acknowledge a problem but NO solution... any fixes anyone .. pretty please

What data did you have on Orange backup that you didn't already have in Outlook? I don't use Orange backup myself but I believe the problem lies with contacts. Can you do selective restores? If so, could you wipe the data from your phone, sync the contacts and then restore everything except the contacts?

Wouldn't it be a lot easier if Orange just fixed their program?

thanks for the tip .. is there an easier way of deleting contacts from my phone other than one by one.. ( could be here til christmas... 2006 if that is the only way! )

I am then way willing to give it a whirl...

sometimes, just occasionally it would be great if it did what it said on the tin!

If it's a new phone and you have nothing else on it a Hard reset will set it back to factory defaults.

Hi

Just spent an hour on the phone to orange again.. the issue first arose because I wanted to move my text messages and had been told a system back up was the only way to do it.. ( now I know that's not possible anyway)

They have suggested the only thing to do is a hard reset but I'm reticent as I don't want to lose all video and pictures on the CV500 which I moved from E200.. is there a way I can back these up before I hard reset ( which is increasingly looking like the only option)

Thanks

HI , thanks for yet more help

However, having a bit of a girl moment here.. how can I get all my pictures from my phone to PC easily without sending individually when my phone won't speak to my PC and I have about 100 images and video clips to transfer..

Is there an easy way ? I'm off to look at text message transfer..

This will take time but its cheaper than texting them...

In Multimedia Album you can hit Menu, File, Move To and relocate them to a folder on your storage card.

You can also change the settings in both still & video cameras to put them on the card when you shoot them.

Good idea Johnny - but an easier way (You just gave me the idea BTW) would be to select my documents in storage on the phone using file manager and Menu->Folder->Copy to and select storage card.

Provided you have space on the storage card you should have no problems.

Hi .. great minds.. I have just transferred all images to storage card via active sync and also to desktop ( decided one can't be too careful)

As for all the other issues well I have tried to hard reset all afternoon but 2 seconds seems remarkably difficult to count and so far has eluded me

Orange have held up their hands as to bad advice and backup that is incompatible when you change phones.. new phone on its way. ys this one is officially stuffed. :?

I had a look at the txt stuff .. thanks for that. Problem is the phone won't sync to enable me to use it ..

In future Orange say the only solution to backup and restoring to a new model is to do it manually via active sync and change the files to the new phone that way.. now if only they had said that in the first place!!

Thanks again.. I'm sure I'll be back .. surely a new phone can't possibly be the end of it all

Open Active Sync (without connecting the phone). Click on Options. Untick Contacts.

This should then enable Active Sync so that you can use the Explore facility to Cut/Copy/Paste etc.

(There is another thread somewhere which identified Orange Restore as causing the problem in syncing Contacts).

AHH.. that would be my problem then.. must have missed an "s" out.. I never could spell!!

Unofortunately I really have had to accept defeat and can't even do the text message thing as I can't sync with my PC.. so :x and double :x

Thanks everyone for all the help though .. if only I had counted rivers instead of elephants it may have all worked out

Ah, you see I checked the spelling with Google first.

You know there's a hard reset function in the phone software ? It's the Clear Storage option in the Accessories folder. I don't know if it will help you though..
