first charge of c500 batt - 16 hours?!?!?

today, i got my e200-to-c500 upgrade from orange 2 weeks early (along with 500 free texts a month for threatening to terminate my contract due to increasingly expensive monthly bills) and the lady i spoke to last night said i needed to charge the battery for 16 hours prior to using it!! is this correct, considering it says just 3 hours in the manual?

incidentally, as soon as i plugged the phone in to charge it, the led was only orange for a few seconds and then turned green. it's been green ever since - i started charging it at 5pm. should i read anything into this? ie. was the battery already charged, meaning the phone isnt brand, spanking new?

tia for any replies...

Almost all phone manufacturers etc say you should charge the battery for at least 16 hours on the 1st charge, so im guessing it is correct. I never have done though, and have always had excellent battery life out of all of my phones.

I have just got mine. I was told by Orange to follow the manufacturers instructions on charging so I charged it for 3 hours. It seems to be working fine.

Got mine the other day. It too was fully charged. Gave it a 3 hour charge anyway and its not ran out of juice yet 3 days on.....

I'm sure I've read somewhere else on the forum that it kind of goes -

you should give the phone a very long initial charge as this is the best thing for it. However, nobody does and everyone just plays with it as soon as it's got any charge at all!

I'm sure there is a technical reason for the long initial charge, but with the advancement in batteries these days it's no longer needed like it used to be. Seems to be a bit like running in a car - you really should, but you don't need to as cars are built with closer tolerances these days!

The initial charge is important!

when you get the phone out of the box you tend to find not all battery cells are active, meaning the battery inticator doesnt give a true reflection of the charge state of the battery.

With out a full charge these cells will never activate, also the longer you leave it the less likely it is that they will come alive
