SD card replacement

I own an unlocked Orange SPV C500. It still has in it the original 16MB card the phone came with it.

I was thinking of buying a card with more memory. The thing is, I noticed that the card has some pre-installed files on it. My question is, are these files essential to the running of the phone? What happens to them if it put in a different card? If they are essential, how can I transfer them onto the new card?

Finally, what card do you recommend I buy?

Thanks.

The files on your original card will be trial versions of software that you've probably already looked at. TBH I haven't seen mine since the day I switched it on !

If you want to keep them, simply copy them to your PC when connected via ActiveSync. Then you can always transfer them onto the new card the same way.

So, the new card. Get the largest size (mb) you can afford. MP3s & video files will take up the most space and I couldn't do without 512mb, though many do. The type of card you want is mini-SD (secure digital) and the most trusted manufacturer is SanDisk though I'm currently using a Kingmax from the MoDaCo shop, which works perfectly well.

Thanks, Johnny. So in other words, nothing on my card is of importance, and there should be no problem in replacing it without transferring the files, right?

yes almost all the files in your card is not important, unless you have installed your apps on your storage card. then you have to copy all the application files to your new card for them to work.

I'd agree with all the above but would just like to add:

1) Make sure it is a Mini-SD cardnot a normal SD card - they are different but not all memory suppliers seem to realise this. A mini-SD card should come with an adapter to ft in an SD card slot but will be more expensive than the equivelent SD card.

2) I bought a 256Mb card because they are relatively cheap but I will get a 1Gb card when they come down in price which they will do (and fairly srapidly if past experience is anything to go buy)

3) If you are getting a large card and want to transfer large amounts of data to it then invest in a USB multi card reader - these cost less than a tenner and are a lot faster tfor transferring lots of data.
