Speakerphone not working

ok so i have an SPV with ver 1.6 rom and no matter what i do the phone will not go into speakerphone mode. everything else works fine on it. i have even streamed some audio on it and can hear it just fine. do i need an attachment to make this work, i was under the impression that it should just work. any help would be appreciated

the speaker phone can only be activated in call by holdingthe "call" button - the green one!
