i saw on his phone mp3 files link to media player from the file manager.

If I understood your question right then this could be the answer...

With registry editor pointed to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3file

You'll find 2 entries (yellow folder icon)

DefaultIcon

Shell

Opening 'DefaultIcon' then tapping the left soft key reveals string value 'Default' with a value data 'Windowswmplayer.exe, -2001'

Opening Shell with the left soft key on the other hand reveals another yellow folder icon 'Open'. Open this entry then you'll see 'Command'. Finally opening 'Command' key with the left soft button reveals a String Value 'Default' and Value Data of 'Windowswmplayer.exe %1'

Those settings ensure that MP3 files are associated with Windows Media Player. Check out the file attachment below and see if you have the same values.

Another tip..

For WMP to play/open mp3 files faster, try creating a playlist (*.asx) then export this file to your Start Menu folder. Clicking on the playlist opens WMP then plays the songs you specified in the list.

For playlist manager try:

http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...hlight=playlist

or the PC-based (DOS) utility:

http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=117073

I hope all these things will work on your MPx220 :)

i had no windows dir path??....

thanks big time. i few things got messed up. but you gave me a start.

this is what i had

Opening 'DefaultIcon' then tapping the left soft key reveals string value 'Default' with a value data 'wmplayer.exe, -2001'

changed to> Windowswmplayer.exe, -2001

Opening Shell with the left soft key on the other hand reveals another yellow folder icon 'Open'. Open this entry then you'll see 'Command'. Finally opening 'Command' key with the left soft button reveals a String Value 'Default' and Value Data of wmplayer.exe %1

changed to> Windowswmplayer.exe "%1"

most entries in the reg had "%1" after the .exe. dont know what the ""

do?..

also found these problems......

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mp3> default> value data=avifile ??? wtf replaced it to MP3files

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mpg> default> value data=MP3file ???? not sure if i should enter avifile here. mpg is not avi.......

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mpg> content type> value data=audio/mpeg ??

not sure if audio needs to be there.

sure there are more messed up thing in the reg...

what program do you use for your reg edits on your phone?

looks like a pc to phone program?? any links for it?

PHMRegEdit keeps kicking me out/crashing after i reset my phone the 1st time then i have to reinstall it :)

You're welcome. Happy to help. :(

The screengrab I posted was from Pocket Controller-Enterprise (www.soti.net). It is possible to edit reg settings with the program while phone is connected to the PC.

Another useful program along registry editing is RESCO File Explorer for Smartphone (the old version with registry plug-in). Posted below are the contents of the *.reg file I 'exported' toIPSMMy Documents using RESCO (www.resco-net.com). Have a look, its the *.mp3 and mp3file of my HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mp3

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.mp3]

@="mp3file"
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3file
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3file]

@="MP3 Format Sound"

"EditFlags"=dword:00010000

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3fileDefaultIcon]

@="Windowswmplayer.exe, -2001"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3fileShell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3fileShellOpen]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmp3fileShellOpenCommand]

@="Windowswmplayer.exe %1"

What I love about RESCO with registry plugin is the ability to import *.reg files (and export as well). If you want to import (equivalent to 'merge' in PC) just click on the .reg file then you're done. :)

BTW the value data of Command > Default is Windowswmplayer.exe %1 and not Windowswmplayer.exe "%1". I cannot answer the .mpg query you have as I dont have a *.mpg key on my phone.

Kindly compare the pix below to my first post...
