Hi everyone

I'm a newbie here, but can't find what I'm looking for :?

I've seen on the Microsoft site that there is a new version of Mediaplayer (v10) for the PPC2003SE. It says it doesn't offer the software direct from itself, but redirects you to your service provide.

Now, as I'm with Orange and have a brand-spanking-new C500, I thought I would have no problems upgrading it. But Orange do not have the software available :?

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get this upgrade for my C500 before Orange releae it (if they ever do)?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, FakeBob :)

This question's getting asked almost as often as the TV remote query

You can't get it for the C500 at the moment but it will probably be made available within the next operator ROM upgrade. I doubt we'll have to wait too long as other phones have it pre-installed.

I reckon your chances are Nil.

The networks will see it as an obsolete handset now, so there'll be no more ROM upgrades.

the number of e200 users has dropped massively. Just look at the MoDaCo e200 section, there are at least 10x more posts per day in the c500 section.

I dont think you will see wmp10 on the e200

And quite a few of them should really be in the H&A section :)

As I am writing this with jaw clenched, to prevent me from screeming profanities like some deranged terrets suferer, I ask anyone out there with tears in my eyes, what might be the reason for microsoft not allowing me to upgrade my mpx220's WMP software to version 10?

On theyre website they list a few phones containing the new version of software. Why in heavens name would you advertise the latest software for only the newest "smartphones" and leave the other ones out in the cold? Is this some sort of capitalist ploy between microsoft and mobile manufacturers to make you buy the latest mobile before youve managed to break the new one in?

I know that there are free players available but, what's the use then of buying a Microsoft Smartphone if the software is not upgradeble.

So if anyone knows as to what reason microsoft could perhaps have to justify theyre anouncement not to make WMP10 a downloadable upgrade please enlighten me.

because providers such as Orange pay Microsoft large amounts of money not to make it downloadable, so they can look better.

WMP10 isn't worth the hassle in my opinion. The only worthwhile addition is playlist functionality and it loses the ability to play content protected files stored anywhere other than the phone's internal storage space.

By all means, feel annoyed that you can't get WMP10 - but remember there are people who can, did, and wished they didn't get it :|

So in your opinion what is the best media player out there right now for smartphone 2003?

I tried TCPMP and found the playback on my mpx220 a bit jerky or at least more so than WMP9. Plus without sounding to superficial the GUI wasnt very revined but, the proggie makes up for it with sheer functionality.

For mp3 playback I tried PocketMusic and loved it! Except the fact that you had to pay for it, and I sort of like to think of myself as an opensource supporter. Still the interface was simple and looked great.

I never had a problem with WMP9. TCMP is jerky on playback for me too for music.

At the moment, I cannot recommend any free players. WMP10 is fine if you don't have content protected files - and even if you do, it might play them ok as the problem seems to be at random.

This is slightly off toppic here, but anyone knows how to change the bit rate for mobile devices to include 48k while syncing?

What I'm getting at is that the bit rate on the "Devices" tab for automatic conversion (when playlists are being synced to the mobile device) can go as low as 64k, but not lower.. I tried the registry trick (to change the bit rate setting for Low, Medium, etc.), but that only changed the one for Ripping, but not for device conversion..

Hope my issue is clear..

I've been using Betaplayer on my Mpx220 for DVD's and large video files recently. Works so much better than WMP. Includes more sound and picture control too.
