Guest davpel Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Is there anyway to delete some of the ringtones which come with the phone , or are these built right into the firmware (I'm using 2003)? I don't need all the midis, etc. and would love to free up some space.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 The tones are part of the ROM image and so cannot be deleted. Also they take up very little space but even if you did remove them you could not utilise the new space as it has been alocated for ROM use and not storage.
Guest davpel Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Thanks for the information. Does anyone have any other specific space-saving tips? I like the MPX200 so much more than the 220 in terms of form-factor/size and looks, but this lack of internal storage space is kiling me.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Just use an SD card, all apps should be installed on that. I have never managed to fill the phones storage in over two years of using smartphones.
Guest davpel Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 I've got a 1 gig card in there and typically install all apps to it. However, there are some apps which only work from the device (e.g. Splash ID and Seven) and others which simply work better installed there, and that is why I'm tyring to make some space.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 others which simply work better installed there Can you give some examples? becuse if an app installs to the storage card it will work in exactly the same manner as if being installed on the phone unless it is either pooly written like the Jmms application. I have not personally used Splash ID and have never heard of Seven, so I cannot comment on those apps.
Guest davpel Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Well, having more experience with both PPC devices and Palms, I can say for certain that there are specific apps that are known not to run from the cards (Voice Command for PPC and just tons and tons for Palm). With Smartphones, SplashID will run from a card, but if installed there, it will not sync properly with the desktop -- probably an issue of active sync not knowing where to find the database. Seven makes push e-mail applications for a variety of providers. They are responsible for Sprint Business Connection and Cingular Express Mail. Push e-mail is an amazing thing if you can get it to work properly -- its what's kept Blackberry in business.
