Guest jfran Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Just came across this posting on another forum and thought I would share it with you guys Take Dave's PDA Place - Davespda.com ..."SD WiFi Drivers for Smartphones Thursday 12.09.2004 at 09:22 AM Have a Smartphone with an SD slot and are upset that you can't use SDIO WiFi cards? It looks as if help is on the way. German Pocket PC and Smartphone site PocketPC.ch has posted information about a driver that allows any SyChip WLAN6065SDx based SDIO WiFi card (which includes the Socket and SanDisk WiFi cards) to run on a Smartphone with only an SD slot. The driver is still in the beta phase and has not been made available to the public yet, but you can read more about it below. Update: The Memphis Tradeware forums has a post with a file claiming to be this driver. I can't confirm that it is, so try it at your own risk."...... There is also a link to download the drivers, cant wait for a mini SD wireless LAN card to put it to the test :) rgds Jim
Guest squall Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 this was mentioned a few weeks ago, would be good to see the drivers launched. I wouldnt hold your breathe for miniSD cards!
Guest glynton Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 C500's Mini-SD slot is internal anyway. Not like previous SPVs where a Wi-Fi dongle could stick out the side.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I think we will see WiFi Smartphones very soon... P
Guest glynton Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I mentioned in another topic a good idea, some kind of bluetooth bridge for wi-fi. So BT phones can connect to Wi-Fi networks via this BT bridge. Or better yet, can the C500's USB port be used for anything? Say a Wi-Fi dongle?
Guest lighthouse82 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 now that sounds like a possibility. but i have read on other threads something about the C500 only being a USB slave - so this might scupper any plans to use USB as a means of expansion.
Guest jfran Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 Well it looks like a matter of just waiting for newer handsets to be released rgds jim
Guest aznsolo Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 i have a wifi mini sd card that fits into the slot. but i dont noe about the software and driver
Guest McHale Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I believe you have an SD WiFi card. There is no miniSD wifi card. What phone are you placing it in? The MPx220 and the c500 (and variants) are miniSD. Every other smartphone (SPV, e100, e200, variants, mitac, and Samsung) are SD. I'm sure there are a few I've missed, but there hasn't been ANY mention of miniSD WiFi on any tech site yet. -Mc
Guest squall Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 we are a long way off seeing minisd wifi cards, however i do think we will see a smartphone with built in wifi in 2005
