SPV 500 Smartphone and Media Center 2005 (Or Media Player 10

I've got Media center 2005 and one of these 'smart' phones. I know I cannot directly sync my recorded TV with Media Center, but I can sync with media player10.

Trouble is, I don't know what codec is needed.

Every time I try to sync my recorded TV (or any video) I get:

"Error: Windows Media Player cannot convert the file to the format required by the device."

I *can* sync audio.

What codec (I have the NVIDIA DVD codec (latest version) and the latest DIVX codecs installed already).

Please don't tell me to use smartplayer or MediaTV... They will be no good for me (I want to sync recorded tv onto my phone so I can watch TV on my way in from work... as automatically as possible with as few steps as needed).

Can anyone tell me the Smartphone codec (and where I can get it?)...

I think the only file format that WMP on the smartphone plays is wmv. I guess the format that media center records is mpeg?

Also I'm guessing that the resolution recoreded is pretty big (bigger than 176x220 or whatever it is). So I'm not sure how watchable it'd be, but maybe you can alter that in win media center, I'm not sitting at my media pc now.

See if you can find a smartphone size encoded wmv file (there is probably some on the forum, trailers etc) and try that out.

You could also turn off the "convert file format" in activesync (from the pc)settings, see if it syncs, and watch it in PocketTV (mpg),Betaplayer (divx) or Windows media player depending on the format

I don't know what options you have in Media Center but like Furby™ says BetaPlayer (which is free) plays DivX files but WMP9 which comes on the phone plays WMV files so if you encode in either of these formats you should be able to play the files but bear in mind the screen size, if you can reduce the size the file size will be smaller and you don't need it bigger than the actual screen size (which IIRC is 220 X 176)

Good luck

You should be able to sync recorded tv from media center 2005 to your smartphone. Not sure if it's also supported through mce interface, but for sure on wmp10. Though, this will only work when you have wmp10 mobile installed on your smartphone.

Haven't been able to test this out myself yet though, seeing the wmp update for my imate sp3 (=spv c500) hasn't been released yet. But according to microsoft this should work. It simply compresses the video to 176x220 wmv9 and syncs it to your device.

I've been complaining DAILY (Yes, every day so far) to Orange to release Media Player 10 so I can do this.

I'm on their beta tester books, becuase I've got Media Center 2005 and they want to test this functionality (They have the good sence to realise that there will be lots of people demanding this...) so they know it'll work for their customers.

I just wish they'd hurry the fcuk up and release it already. The USA (Audiovox 5600) has it...

It automatically compresses wmv files when synced to the phone, sounds clever. Will have to have more of a play with it if wmp10 is released for the c500
