Guest Dark Horse Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 I got my C500 replaced recently because of a fault with the handset. The replacement however has the new Orange update on that has reduced performance to a crawl. Menu's take ages to pop up and the spinny icon appears with alarming regularity :x Is there anyway of getting rid of whatever rubbish the Orange muppets have put on this handset and reverting back to the old one that was much quicker? failing that, are there any obvious tweaks for improving the performance of the menu's and handset in general? So much for a 200MHz processor, what's the point when the software is so screwed that its a step backwards?
Guest Phil Lee Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 I have not had any performance issues with the Orange update installed on my C500. Maybe you should consider doing a hard reset or contacting Orange to get another replacement.
Guest Confucious Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Mine has the latest update and is faster than afast thing not running through treacle. I agree with what Phil said.
Guest Dark Horse Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Did you both apply the upgrade yourself or did you buy with the upgrade already on there? What version are you running? Just wondering whether Orange have messed around with anything else.

Guest feederfan Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 Have you tried using task manager to end all running processes? Often if you leave games and media player running in the background the phone does slow to a crawl,
Guest Dark Horse Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 There's nothing running in the background and the ROM is the same as Confucious' post. I just think the first batch of C500's were a lot more reliable with better build quality than the same model handsets being sold today :)
Guest Dark Horse Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 ok, I disabled ClearType and its improved the performance no end. Strange how such a small tweak could have such a dramatic effect! Regards, Dark Horse.
Guest Phil Lee Posted December 20, 2004 Report Posted December 20, 2004 I have ClearType enabled on my C500 with no problems at all.
Guest skaramanga Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 How do you disable/enable cleartype on the C500?
Guest Peterade Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 When I switch on my C500 it takes almost a minute to connect. Is this normal? Most other phones are much quicker. (nothing running in b/g)
Guest Dark Horse Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 ClearType can be disabled via the registry, check this link http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1153...light=cleartype If you mean that it almost takes a minute to boot up when you switch on your phone, then yes this is normal. If you mean that it takes almost a minute to find a signal and connect to your network once the phone has booted, then no, this isn't normal. Perhaps you live in an area where the reception is patchy? Regards, Dark Horse
Guest rkrishnamurthy Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Same here, I have ClearType enabled on my C500 too with no problems at all. i enabled my through "Smartione" PC based program.
