There are various myths around this - but does anyone here have a definitive answer??

Just taken delivery of my c500.

Orange say 16 hours.

The manual says minimum of 3 hours.

Am desperate to use it.........

I think the underlying message is not to skimp on this one as it can cause you problems later.

Best forget about it and have something to look forward to in the morning !

Orange supplied my battery fully charged. I got it from one of their shops. Is it really fully charged or should I have given it the full Monty charge anyway?

You can't be sure if it is really fully charged so I'd recommend you do it yourself.

I would always do a 3-4 hour initial charge minimum as you do not know the state of charge.

Li-ion unlike Ni-Cd batteries prefer to be topped up rather than being discharged. If you did discharge a Li-ion battery you will cause damage which will shorten the life of the battery.
