Guest Slaesh Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Hello to all, My brand spanking new SPV C500 turned up yesterday - I'm so happy! :) I've been reading this site for a week or so trying to learn all about Smartphones, and I think I've got most of the basics. Although I do still have a couple of queries (I have tried searching, but couldn't quite find the relevant info) - How do I find out if my phone has had the update installed, and if it hasn't how do I do it? - The links I've found for the application unlock on the orange website refer to many other SPV models, but not the C500. Is it ok to use this for my phone? Many thanks in advance
Guest Confucious Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Start-> Settings->About scroll down to ROMubdate version. The latest UK version is 4.1.1.4 - let us know if you're not in the UK. Yes Welcome to the forums :)
Guest Slaesh Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Ah ha! ROM Update versions: Operator 4.1.1.4 And I'm off to unlock my phone now Cheers mate - you're a star BTW What are the essential Apps I *need* for my phone to become the monster it deserves to be?
Guest Confucious Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 no probs: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=116505 http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=113355
Guest Slaesh Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Thanks again Confucious My app unlock seemed to work, and I have installed both Smart Explorer and SP Task Manager But when I tried to install the C500 promo homescreen (C500.cab) I got the following message: INFO Installation Failed. The program or setting cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trused certificate any ideas?
Guest Confucious Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Neither Smart Explorer nor SP Task Manager need the phone to be unlocked. The homescreen, on the other hand, does. So it seems like the unlocking has NOT worked. Which link did you use and did you get the text confirmation?
Guest Slaesh Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 This link: http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdefq.aspx I got a confirmation on the phone matching the one on the screen
Guest Confucious Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 That looks like the correct link. Have you rebooted your phone? if you have and are still having problems I'd try again. let us know how you get on. Good luck.
Guest Slaesh Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 By reboot I assume you just mean turn it off then on again. I gave it another go before and have turned it off and on again since. But I'll try again from home tonight. Thanks again for all your time and help.
Guest stugee Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Hi I was wondering if you could help me(Newbie alert)! I used the abouve link, followed the steps and received the message saying my phone was unlocked. I have waited for over 15mins but the small windows logo that should appear at the top of my screen hasn't appeared! Will my phone be unlocked? Is there any easy way to check? A couple of other things: Where can I get a link to Xbar2? My version of windows mobile is 4.21.1088 (Build 14132), Is this the latest versio? Many thanks in advance Stuart
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 1. If you got the message screen on your phone then you're unlocked. If it still hasn't appeared then try again. If it still doesn't work, try the newer site in this thread - > http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=102618 2. Xbar 2.0 at Handango 3. Yes, that's the latest :)
Guest Slaesh Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Hoooray... My C500 is finally unlocked! I just kept on doing the unlock thing from the website, then it randomly stopped recognising my IMEI number, I install the registration app from the orange website, ran that then ran the unlock process a few more times and finally it all worked Right... off to find more things to install! BTW what file formats does betaplayer support? cheers Neil
Guest martin Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 BTW what file formats does betaplayer support? Install Betaplayer 0.095 and then install the additional plugin files. http://betaplayer.corecodec.org You will find a list compatible file types in BetaPlayer under Option-Settings-Select Page-File Associations :)
Guest KeyriBhoy Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Ok this might be a stupid question but help me out, When you talk about unlocking it do you mean the same as with normal phones ( allowing any network ) or is this something else especially for smartphones
Guest Confucious Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 There are 2 types of unlocking. The unlocking from the network lock which costs £20 and the application unlock which allows you to install unsigned apps and change system files which otherwise you can't which is what is being discussed in this thread. HTH
Guest stugee Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 grrrrrrr I can't seem to get my phone app unlocked, I've ran the website from the above link 3 times, but I still don't have the small windows logo at the top of my screen!!!
Guest KeyriBhoy Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Unsogned apps is that like when you try to install a program and it says the install file is not ment for this device even when it says it is or Is that just private developers? What website do you use to unlock for apps I tried the orange site but couldnt find anything
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 It has been reported elsewhere that the OTA application unlock service is not working as it should right now. Watch out for further developments. Click on -> OTA <- for instructions and the web address. You may get it to work. Application unlocking is to allow you to install software not digitally signed by Orange. If you don't unlock the phone you will get a message saying that you don't have the required permissions to install the software. The 'not intended for this device' warning is usually true and is normally telling you that you're trying to install Pocket PC software. Also, some things will install on Motorola Smartphones which won't on HTC Smartphones.
