T9 and web page input field

Steps to reproduce:

1. On SPV open an edit field, e.g. use Pocket IE to open www.google.com/palm/ or a field on the create new contact page.

2. Change entry mode to "T9"

3. Try to type the name "Ollie" by pressing 65543

The 4 doesn't do anything, even if I keep pressing it so I get "okle".

* If the word "ollie" is in the dictionary, I would expect it to be displayed correctly.

* If the word "ollie" is not in the dictionary, I would expect the button to at least respond to being pressed.

I may be missing something here, but if I am I'd say the interface is more than a little obscure.

Isn't this standard T9? Can't remember, but I thought my old Nokia did the same. I think it assumes you mis-typed and ignores you if there is no suitable word in the dictionary. Could be wrong though...

The Nokia Phone would prompt you to add a word!

Seems to be missing on the SPV.

I turn T9 off on web any way, setting the double click to 0.5 sec usually speeds up input (how many URL's are in the dictionary any way?).

On a Nokia, if the word isn't in the dictionary then the phone just lets the key add the junk letters.

I'm not using T9 to enter a URL, I'm using it to enter text into the search box on google.

Btw, how do I add words to the dictionary on an SPV? I don't see a menu item or a way to do it. The manual says it automatically adds them but that doesn't seem to be true.

To add words to the dictionary switch to abc, type the word and switch back to t9.

It sometimes forgets some words though which is annoying. It seems to do this randomly (often after a reboot.) and I can't seem to find any common reason for this...

I open a new contact, switched to t9, back to abc, typed a word not in the dictionary, switched back to t9 and tried to type it - it failed.

So maybe I'm missing something but I still don't see how to add a word to the dictionary.

Hmmmmm... that should work. Apparently in Messenger you have to pres a space (either before or after going back to t9 - I forget). Try that.

However in SMS I haven't needed to do this. Someone also posted about a particular word not being saved no matter what he did. Can't remember what the word was, but try a different one.

All in all the T9 doesn't seem to be the best on the phone. It works for me but, as I said it''s a bit flakey. Also no easy way to enter numbers - it's a pain switching modes just to enter a number. It should have an "Enter Number" command like the Nokias.

Let us know if you have any success. You could also try turning it off and on in case you're runnning low in memory.
