Here are the Cingular Settings using the $19.99 unlimited data MediaNet service. Media Works is WAP only but internet access is gained via a proxy. Any setting you have seen using ISP.CINGULAR will not work and may be what was causing most problems. Those settings are used for the GPRS Connections on Data cards or higher rate GPRS Data plans.

Here ya go...all tested and work great!

Media Works package connections on SMT 5600

1) Goto Data Connections

Start>Settings>More>Data Connections

2) Delete all existing connections so there is no chance of a conflict

Menu>Edit Connections>Proxy Connections>Menu>Delete>Done

GPRS Connections>Menu>Delete>Done

...repeat until all are gone. Click DONE

3) Next create a WAP Connection

GPRS Connections>Menu>Add

Description: Cingular WAP

Access Point: WAP.CINGULAR

Username: [email protected]

Password: CINGULAR1

Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0

Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0

IP Address:

...click DONE...click DONE

4) Next you need to create a proxy connection that will point any program trying to access GPRS to WAP

Proxy Connections>Menu>Add

Description: proxy

Connects from: WAP Network

Connects to: The Internet

Proxy(name:port):

Type: HTTP

Username:

Password:

...click DONE...DONE

5) On the Data Connections screen change the following to:

Internet Connection: GPRS (Cingular WAP)

Work Connection: Automatic

WAP Connection: GPRS (Cingular WAP)

Secure WAP connection: Automatic

...click DONE

6) Change your Internet Explorer Settings

Goto Internet Explorer>Menu>Options>Connections

Uncheck: Automatically detect settings

Select network: WAP Netowrk

...click DONE

7) Change your email settings

Whenever you create a new POP email account in Options>Account Setup

The Network should be set to WAP Network to be able to send/receive email

8) Change MMS Settings

Start>Configurations>MMS Settings:

Check: Retrieve Immediately

No of attempts: 3

Connect Via: WAP Network

Photo Resolution: Original Resolution

Click Menu>MMSC Settings

Menu>New

Name: Cingular

MMSC URL: http://mmsc.cingular.com

WAP Gateway: 66.209.11.61

Port: 9201

...click Done

...click Menu>Set as Default

Turn off phone...back on again.

Everything works great!!!

As a recent (earlier today) convert from AT&T to Cingular (with my 5600), and a MediaWorks subscriber, I thank you :)

These settings work great, no problems at all.

I do not use the proxy. I connect with wap.cingular directly to the internet.

great post, thanks!

i'm going to be switching from at&t to cingular in the very near future.

can anyone share their experiences and the process to change to cingular?

is a new SIM card necessary?

ups.com states that my phone is 'out for delivery'! only a couple of more hours before i get my hands on it!!! :)

jaco523 - I just switched today. How I did it was:

1 - got my SMT5600 and a new plan from AT&T

2 - waited a couple weeks, then called Cingular and initiated the migration over to Cingular (including a new phone)

3 - Got my new phone from Cingular today, and activated the account with the new phone.

4 - transferred the Cingular SIM card to my SIM unlocked SMT5600

5 - changed the settings above, and all seems to work great with the SMT5600 on Cingular :)

CRCs Reality -

thanks for the info. a couple of questions:

were you able to keep/port your at&t phone number when you transferred to cingular?

which sim unlock method did you use? the thread that you linked to was quite long and a little confusing to me.

have you application unlocked your phone also?

Yes, I kept my old AT&T number without any problems at all.

I unlocked using this link from this thread (thanks florin!)

And yes, I've done the app unlock, I forget which utility I used but if you search here you'll find it.

Few questions:

1) I currently cannot stream media on my MPX220 from sites when it is served on a nonstandard port (i.e. 8000, 10042, etc.) Will the changes above fix this for me?

2) Has anyone with the $19.99 Mediaworks plan used their phone as a wireless modem or shared the GPRS connection with a PDA or PC without running up data charges? I really want to use BT or IR and share the unlimited GPRS but do not want a crazy bill at the end of the month.

3) If the answer to #2 is no, anyone thought about writing a http proxy that would connect to a PDA or PC via the BT stack via .NET or C++?

Hello encece,

This is my first posting to this site. I am new, but I have read a lot of your intuitive posts, so I need your help if you don't mind.

I just bought and SMT5600, which I unlocked online. I was a 9 year sprint customer, with Toshiba 2032sp, and now I need Gsm.So I chose the 5600. I signed up with cingular and the unlimited media. When I got the phone activated, I had voice but I keep getting a proxy and setting error when I try to connect to the internet.

I followed (I might have messed it up nicely) your previously posted settings and I still get the internet connection error.

I also notice that I have Mmode internet page as well. In addition I have also seen some different posts about the SMT500 settings for cingular.

Bottomline, I need help to help with all the settings on the phone for Media net/internet/email.

I am suffering when I should be enjoying the phone, so I would very much appreciate a step by step.

My sincere thanks.....

Hi

Now that I've changed the settings, My Yahoo site doesn't appear the same anymore on my phone. Before when I was with ATT, I was able to see color and pictures on the Yahoo wap site. But with cingular, I can not. Any clue??

far be it for me to come and ruin all the fun, but I have a small correction to make to the original post:

The 19.99 unlimited plan will soon (Feb. 12) cost 5 bucks more. So if you're considering getting it, do it quick. The new price plans SUCK!!!
