Guest jaco523 Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 hello, all - this is my first time posting, so be gentle... i'm having the bmw bluetooth retrofit kit installed on my 2001 5-series this weekend. unfortunately it sounds like the smt5600/c500 is not compatible with the built-in bmw bluetooth system. can anyone confirm or refute this? after discovering that i could get the smt5600 for $25 from amazon.com(1 year contract with at&t in the u.s.), I just had to order one -- it's arriving tonight! anyway, assuming that the smt5600 will not work with my car, and assuming that i'll have to wait awhile before it will work, I dreamed up the following workaround: use the smt5600 as my 'main' phone, and use my old sony ericsson t68i(compatible with the bmw system) for making and receiving calls through the bmw system while in the car. i'd add the t68i as a second phone on my plan($10/month), then set up the smt5600 to forward it's number to the t68i anytime i was in the car. using this method i believe i would be able to keep my outlook contacts in sync with the smt5600, then i could periodically sync up my contacts from the smt5600 to the t68i using bluetooth(which would automatically stay in sync with the car's address book). in theory this should give me full functionality of my car bluetooth (caller-id and phonebook display on the nav screen, voice-dialing without voice tags, control via steering wheel buttons, etc.) and let me use the smt5600 while away from the car! does this sound feasible, or am i crazy?! how easy is it to transfer contacts from the smt5600 to another phone? could i set up a quick way to toggle call-forwarding on and off? well, that was longer than i had planned! any comments are appreciated. thanks to everyone for such a great forum!!! --corey [soon to be] proud owner of an smt5600 michigan / usa
