Guest thelondonthing Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Having upgraded and extended my contract, I was intending to get the SPV M2000. However, judging by the availability and the backlog of people waiting for theirs, I probably won't be receiving it this side of February! However, I realise this is a mixed blessing as there may be new phones on the market by then. So my question is this: is there any information on 3G Windows Smartphones or PPCs, and when we can expect to see them? I know there's a 3G version of Blue Angel in Australia - but when can we expect something on British shores?
Guest Tunney Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 The PPC 3G phones that was released in New Zealand (?), uses a different 3G standard to that used in Europe so we could be in for quite a wait. I guess how long depends on what's stopping the development of 3G phones based on MS software. Does anyone know whether Smartphone/Pocket PC officially supports UMTS/W-CDMA yet?
Guest Confucious Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 3G phones are IMHO to big and badly specified at the moment. The nearest thing to a smartphone is the Motorola A1000 which runs Symbian UIQ (the same as the P910) but is omnly available on Three so is restricted buy the walled garden. I have not even heard roumours of a 3G Windows SmartPhone and I have no doubt the rumours wiill start a long time before thay are actually available The nearest thing so far is http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=119036 which is for the Japanese market only. I wouldn't hold your breath. My views on 3G smartphones are her http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=119205 - if you are interested.
Guest dog Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Apparently the European operators are duelling for the right to get HTC's new WCDMA device. Probably not ready until mid-05, but I hear it's a beauty. 8) Most likely PPC-size though, with bells, whistles, coffee maker......
Guest Pigo Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 coffee-maker... COOL... just hope it can make tea. Don't like coffee!!! any rumours about a built in mini-fridge?? Pigo
Guest Confucious Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I've heard that to keep the size down the built in mini-fridge isn't big enough to strore cans in. Can anyone confirm this? If so it is a major bug.
Guest Pigo Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 What a major turn off!! and here I was hoping I could even store a 0.5L bottle in it. do hope they have a min-USB-freezer available though. now that would be usefull!!
