Email attachments not being downloaded

My email (POP) account is no longer downloading attachments. But why? :-({|=

I did a hard reset the other day (clearing out the old rubbish) and reinstalled everything from scratch (not a Sprite restore). I'm on v4.1.1.4 of the Orange firmware.

I've setup the email account correctly (checked it against my PC) - and I can download emails, I just don't get the attachment nor the attachment icon on the phone (I seem to remember it has a paperclip on the envelope symbol for any emails that have attachments)

I've sent myself loads of test messages from my PC, and checked the mailbox via my webmail service. Both the PC and the Webmail show the attachments and let me open them (so not corrupt attachments). I've tried TXT, PDF, JPG and DOC attachments and none of them show up.

I've called Orange Data and been through some really basic stuff with the guy there, but he's having to pass it on and they're talking about a 2-week response time (because of the Xmas break).

Anyone got any ideas?

Anything, no matter how daft it sounds, might help me right now! :?

Not sure if it's connected/related, but I've also just installed AttachSmart so I can send emails with attachments from the phone... and these attachments don't get sent (although the email does)!

I'm not using the Orange SMTP, but it's the same SMTP I use on the PC (which is managing to send attachments).

I've PM'd a few people that had this problem before, and the only advice seems to be to do a Hard Reset

I'd just done one, so I didn't really want to do it all over again, but the phone was getting more and more unstable (nasty flashbacks to my E100 :) ) so I bit the bullet.

After the 3rd Hard Reset in as many days it's working again. The only apps that I didn't reinstall are:

RJV Send Contact (which was failing to send - maybe connected?)

Smartphone Find

I wish I knew what caused it, but for now all is fine again and my C500 has been forgiven.

I've never used SmartphoneFind but I do use RJV Send Contact and have recently sent emails with attachments from the phone with no problems.

Will try it the other way now and report back.
