Why can't I access contacts or other progs while on a call?

I was on a call yesterday and someone asked me for someone's phone number, so naturally i tried to open the contacts to view their number.

on the SMT5600, I cannot open any other contact except for the contact that i am on the call with!

ALso, i cant use other programs like pocket streets or city time to view what time it is in other countries while on a call.

Any suggestions?

try pressing the home button when in a call, it allows you to have full control of the phone when in a call
